Let's Discuss: Jason Bourne.

Word of warning: THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!! DO NOT READ IT IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING SPOILED!!

I had never seen any of these movies past The Bourne Supremacy. Mainly because by that time I was burned out on Jason Bourne and thought, "Ok, what the hell could they possibly do with Jason Bourne that hasn't been covered in the first two?"

Well, I was wrong. I went and saw, The Bourne Legacy when it came out and thought it was very good. Which got me thinking that perhaps I had missed something from Ultimatum that I never watched.

Well, I finally watched Ultimatum. Man, was it good. But it left me with a lot of questions.

One of which is why didn't Matt Damon do The Bourne Legacy? It kind of felt like a forced character plot with Cross.

Second,

Was David Webb (Jason bourne) injected with the same drugs as Cross? I don't recall him every taking any pills during any of the movies.

Was Blackbriar a completely different program than Treadstone? Was Treadstone only a division of the CIA or something? Or did Blackbriar morph into Treadstone by Supremacy? I understand the program evolved over time but were Blackbriar, Treadstone and Operation Outcome all the same programs but with different delivery methods?

It started with Webb but what program were the other Assets under? If Webb was Blackbriar then were all the other Assets throughout the other movies Operation Outcome?

I kind of got the impression that Blackbriar failed with David Webb (Jason Bourne) and the program changed. The reason I think this is because under Blackbriar they had trouble controlling Bourne or were limited in how they could control him. It seems that all the other Assets throughout all the other movies were under Operation Outcome. I could be wrong though. Do the books explain how each program came to be and what they each did in more detail than the movies? If so, I may pick them up.

Quick Edit: Apparently The Bourne Legacy is not a book but an expansion on the pre-existing stories in the movies. So, what you see in the film is what you get. Although, there were three deleted scenes that were cut from the movie due to time constraints that will be included in the DVD. Hopefully they won't be under the, "Extras" tab and spliced back into the film.

The Bourne Identity is the only one that is reasonably faithful to the book too. The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum movies pretty much only share the same titles as the novels, but the rest is pretty much completely different.

Anyway, I'm quite a fan of The Bourne Identity. Read the novel and have both the 2002 film and the 1988 TV movie on DVD and they are both very good in their own ways. The 2002 version is quite a bit more actiony though.

The first Bourne book was ok, but the rest feel like bad movie scripts to the point where I stopped reading half way through the 3rd one. I found the movies to be much more entertaining.
