PC Skyrim

Should I purchase PC Skyrim? Will the Mods and Creation Kit extend hours of play time, or is it not worth it? (I have the PS3 version of Skyrim currently.)
Just curious, soon I should have enough money to buy the PC version- if it's worth it.

I would say yes. It has extended my playing time drastically. I just wish I had more time to play. There's a whole lot of really great quest mods out there. I just downloaded and played one that was a murder mystery type of quest with a great reward at the end, One of the best I've played. There's also some mods that add some really helpful stuffand others had alot fun things. All of the different house mods is worth it alone.

There are so many different mods out there that you wouldn't ever expect. Just searching around you can find a bunch of great mods that will enhance your game.

Oh, and for a house mod I would recommend Dragon Falls Manor. It's an older mod but still remains one of my favorite user created homes.

Mods add a huge amount of enjoyment to the game for me personally, and yes they do extend the life of the game too, not just Skyrim, this pretty much goes for any game that has a good modding community. One thing though, you should definately check your system specs and make sure the game will run on your machine first! If so, then I'd say you're good to go.

As long as your pc can handle it well, sure go ahead and get it.

IMO the first mods you should be looking for are UI mods. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1373174-relz-skyui/ and you could use http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16178.

Yes, this is true. If your PC will barely handle Skyrim then you won't find much use in mods.

I'm guessing if you already bought the game then you're aware whether you're computer will run it or not.

Give the modders out there enough time. Eventually you'll start seeing large projects being finished. Projects that will make Beth's own dlc pale in comparison (maybe or maybe not)
And you'll get all the mods for free compared to the exuberant pricing of Beth's dlc.

That was one of the huge selling points for me when I switched to PC. The fact that all these mods are completely free is amazing. To get that match extra content in a game is amesome.

Same for me. I've become so reliant on mods to enjoy Skyrim that I can't go back to it on console now! SkyUI is a lifesaver and some of the other mods you can get for it really add great flavor. What is best about them is you can customise the game experience to what you want. I'm waiting to get a new laptop and then I will get the ultimate edition or GOTY type edition for Skyrim on PC. Purely because I won't be paying for the DLC separately.

...and there are those out there that say mods will ruin your game, and that they destroy the developers original intent. To that I say, look at http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/46355 andhttp://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/38056. Not all mods ruin your game, and they certainly don't destroy the vision the developers had...they can do that all on their own, without the help of modders.

If it's anything like Morrowind...

I played MW to death on the Xbox. Loved it. Then bought it on PC and discovered the construction kit. Spent probably the same amount of time playing on that. Don't think I ever really played MW seriously again, just spent all my time building things on the CK... new landmasses, total conversions, etc. It was addictive.

That is so cool! :lmao:

It is not that uncommon for people to mix memory (RAM) and hard drive space. Hard drive is what you install the game on, measured nowadays in hundredes if not thousands of gigabytes, RAM is what you use to run the game, measured in most cases less than 16 gigabytes.

Yes, without a doubt! The mods definitely kept me playing long after I'd more or less finished exploring everything. I must warn you though that the more major mods which add in new features & locations are likely to make the game a bit unstable. In fact, I had to reinstall the game twice because a mod had broken it. Don't let it put you off though, the payoff of playing on the PC certainly outweighs any drawbacks it might have.

I would say, "Yes, it will extend your play." It did mine. I originally got it for XBox, played through at least twice (one char got bugged and I never went back to him). I've now played through again once fully on PC and have another 4 characters at varying stages. Now, depends on your computer, though. Mine is a higher-end "all purpose" home laptop system, which kind of puts it at the low to mid end of a gaming system. But, for Skyrim's requirements, it is overspec'd. (i7, 8GB, 1GB NVidia) Skyrim runs like a dream, even with all options high. If I play in 3D, I have to turn quite a bit down, but it still runs well and looks great wtth the exception of shadows being treated as objects, not textures, meaning the shadows pop up in 3D, which gives me a headache and I don't play in 3D as a result. Anyway, even without mods, I find the PC version MUCH more enjoyable. The graphics are, of course, better, but the sound also has a clearer quality, the sounds are less muddy. AND, the controls, for me, are WAY better than any console controller (i.e. WASD+mouse, and hotkeys). Maybe it's just because I'm a PC gamer primarily who grew up on Doom and even Wolfenstein in their original releases (some 20 years ago), when WASD was pretty much set as "standard" means of control for "3D" games.

On the subject of mods, I don't use them. I don't use them because, invariably for me, they will mess something up, eventually. Many of them are also half-baked, not up to snuff with OEM content release. For me, I'd rather not be subjected to those two things, and looking for a good mod that does not do either is like finiding a needle in a haystack. Not for me. So, even without mods, my play time has been extended tremendously.

My play style is probably important here. I don't look through maps, cheats, walkthroughs, wikis, whatever, and I'm not a completionist. So, I'm still discovering new areas, new side quests, etc. In fact just last night, I found an inn in the middle of nowhere haunted by a ghost whose sword I now have to find. A few days ago I followed a ghost to his grave twice before going back and killing him. Got a whole set of Ancient Nord Armor out of the deal for the first time in 3 full playthrough, plus 1 almost there (bugged on the civil war) and quite a few more that are still pretty up there in level (30s/40s).

:thanks: I will most likely get it very soon. I will also download some of these mods you have mentioned.
These forums are awesome- so much activity. I didn't expect so many replies. This is probably my favourite forum I have found so far!
