Question of quivers

Post » Sat Sep 22, 2012 8:48 pm

I can't help but think the quivers are noticeably large in Skyrim (I can't remember how big they were in Oblivion). I have uneducated preconceptions of how big I think they should be, based off movies and such. So for any historian-archer bigwigs on here, are they also that large in real life as well? Have all the movies and other media been portraying them as too small, or are they really just gigantic in Skyrim?

DISCLAIMER(just in case):
So I'm just curious, are they also that large in real life as well?
Yes I'm aware Skyrim =/= real life, but quivers were not invented in the fantasy genre. Thank you.

In real life i think they were slightly smaller and you had them on your hip, but they could be any size really, the bigger the quiver the more arrows you'll fit in them :P

The average length of longbow arrows found on the Mary Rose was about 75 cm. A quick look for modern quivers seems to give over 50 cm length, and about 20 cm diameter. Now all you have to is hold a tape measure against your back to see if the in game ones look too big. :teehee:
