THE STORY
The story begins on a ranch that was actually closer to the town of Corona, New Mexico than to Roswell. Rancher William "Mac" Brazel [http://www.geocities.jp/myth_of_roswell/img/brazel.jpg] discovered a wide debris field spanning several football fields in length. He contacted the Roswell Army Air Force base about what he had found. The first man on the scene, Major Jesse Marcel [http://images.quickblogcast.com/8/8/2/5/1/225450-215288/mjm509.jpg?a=13]--the head of Security and Intelligence at Roswell Army Air Force Base--described seeing material similar to tinfoil and balsa wood. Major Marcel showed some of the debris to his family. Mac Brazel also showed debris to his family and neighbors. They, along with other witnesses, describe material not in conventional use.
The Roswell Daily Report issued on the 8th of July in 1947 ran with the startling headline: "RAAF Captures Flying Saucer On Ranch in Roswell Region" [http://www.benjaminkanarekblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Roswell-Crash-Report.jpg]
The ABC News radio report broadcasted the following: "The Army Air Force has announced that a flying disc has been found and is now in the possession of the Army." [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUlCBY-K9A8]
But it was not long after that General Ramey put a halt to the discussion of flying saucers. The Roswell Daily Report soon issued a new paper, this time with a different headline: "Gen.Ramey Empties Roswell Saucer: Ramey Says Excitement Is Not Justified" [http://www.alienresearchcorp.com/ufos/roswell/0908/newspaper/images/roswell-newspaper_Ramey-empties-saucer.jpg]
It was then that the Air Force gave the public the first explanation of what really crashed in Roswell: it was nothing more than a common weather balloon equipped with radar material. [http://www.trueparanormal.biz/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/ufo-roswell-crash.jpg - Major Jesse Marcel with debris from a weather balloon.]
And with that, the public was satisfied. It was, for the most part, accepted as being all one big misunderstanding.
That is, until the 1970's and 80's, when UFO researchers began a much deeper investigation of the events of 1947. Major Jesse Marcel himself came forward, along with many other witnesses, to challenge the notion that it was all a big misunderstanding about a downed weather balloon. Jesse Marcel stated that the debris shown in the pictures with General Ramey was not what he had witnessed on Mac Brazel's ranch. Indeed, he claimed the debris he had seen was replaced with the weather balloon wreckage shown in the pictures, and that he was specifically told not to tell anyone about what had really happened. The testimony of Major Jesse Marcel was further corroborated by several witnesses, who had seen the wreckage, been threatened by the Air Force, and, even in some cases, seen bodies of unearthly beings!
But was any of this true? A closer examination of the evidence is in order.
THE AIR FORCE'S OFFICIAL EXPLANATIONS
The Wreckage
The fact is, the Air Force's claim that it was all just a common weather observation balloon with radar equipment was a cover story. This fact is not debated, for indeed, the Air Force themselves have attested to this years later. They claim what crashed near Roswell was not any ordinary weather balloon like they had first claimed, but a top-secret weather balloon from Project Mogul, an operation intended to spy on Soviet atomic bomb tests using an array of advanced weather balloons. [http://dagmar.lunarpages.com/~parasc2/articles/0697/rosaf5.jpg] Could this have been what was found on Mac Brazel's ranch?
It is, indeed, true that Mac Brazel found the remains of a Project Mogul balloon on his ranch. As a matter of fact, he admitted to having found more than one, but none of them in July of 1947! Mac Brazel stated he had found these balloons on his ranch before, and that he would return them to the RAAF base for a modest reward. Mac Brazel stated that the debris found on his ranch did not in any way resemble weather observation balloons. Not only that, but Major Jesse Marcel was the head of Security and Intelligence at the Roswell Army Air Force base, and he had received extensive training in weather balloon and radar technology prior to the events of 1947. Certainly such a huge mistake should call into question Major Marcel's ability to do his job! Not only would failing to distinguish mundane weather balloon and radar material for debris from a flying saucer demonstrate a complete lack of competence at the most basic of levels, but to also inform the newspaper about the "flying saucer" on such misguided evidence would be extremely irresponsible behavior. However, Major Marcel continued to serve as the head of Security and Intelligence until he retired.
In addition, Major Jesse Marcel, his son, and many witnesses who came into contact with this debris describe material that was not in use by Project Mogul, and that is not in use to this day. The witnesses described tinfoil-like material that one could crumple in their hand, but when opening their hand, would un-crumple with no visible creases or bends, and that could not be torn or ripped. They also described balsa wood-like material, that, while wood-like in appearance, was not made of wood. Attempts to cut and burn the wood-like material proved unsuccessful. The material described seemed to be indestructible.
The debris field itself calls into question the conclusion that it was all a weather balloon. Pieces were said to be spread over an area of 250 yards in diameter. Skeptics to the weather balloon story would point out that a balloon could not explode or crash in a way to shatter it into several pieces like what was found, and that, even if somehow it did, what would be left would not be nearly enough to account for what was found, and that to be spread over such a wide area, debris from a shattered weather balloon would be unlikely to even attract attention!
And what of the dozens of reports of threats made against witnesses and their families? Threats to get witnesses fired from their jobs, threats to inflict physical harm onto the witness, or even death threats on the witness and his/her family members! Certainly this is not at all appropriate for a top secret weather balloon.
The Cover-Up
There are dozens upon dozens of reports regarding the presence of a cover-up of what crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. We know for a fact that the initial story of an ordinary run-of-the-mill weather balloon was indeed a cover story. However, that does not account for the extreme measures taken to keep the story underwraps, even though the technology used in the Mogul balloons were not anything exceptional, as it was the mission that was top secret, not the balloons themselves, and no one who found a crashed weather balloon would know what it was for. Yet, many witnesses describe threats of violence or death if they were to speak out about what had happened. With such threats in place, it should come to no surprise that the story remained basically off the radar of the public for so long, especially when one factors in that the civilians of Roswell were used to keeping things quiet, due to their close proximity to where atomic bombs were being tested and the consistent aura of military secrecy. Having recently come out of a war, nationalism was high, and the people of Roswell had no reason to distrust the Air Force or what they said.
UFO researchers discovered, while trying to obtain official documents about the Roswell Incident, that the documents were missing, in spite of the fact that removal or destruction of these documents would have been illegal.
Major Jesse Marcel speaks out about how the wreckage in the photos featured in the newspaper with General Ramey was not the same as what he had seen. He was told explicitly to keep quiet about the event.
Mac Brazel was taken into custody for a week after his discovery. During that time, he was described by friends as acting not like himself, even ignoring them completely when approached. Not long after the Roswell Incident, Brazel refused to speak about the subject and moved away. He died before the incident became well known to the public, in 1963.
The Air Force has denied the accusations of any intimidation, and insists any cover-up was only in relation to Project Mogul.
The Bodies
On top of all the corroborating reports about the debris seen in 1947, there were also several reports by a variety of people of strange non-human bodies. As the reports piled up, the Air Force had no choice but to address them. In The Roswell Report: CASE CLOSED, the US Air Force claimed to have found the source of reports about alien bodies: they were nothing more than crash-test dummies. [http://www.unmuseum.org/dum1.jpg] The report surmised that due to the fantastic story about a crashed flying saucer, witnesses saw the crash-test dummies and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
But how does this explanation hold up compared to the alleged "beings" described seen at Roswell?
The alien bodies were described as short, around 3.5-4 ft tall. Their skin was darkly complected and was greyish in color. They were hairless. Their overall body was often cited as childlike. Their heads and eyes were larger than a normal humans. The nose consisted of only two slits, and another small slit for the mouth. The beings were said to be wearing a tight-fitting silver or grey jumpsuit.
There were a variety of settings that these beings were seen in. Some reported seeing them at the crash site, others near the crash site, and still others while the bodies were being transported somewhere else. At most, there were four beings sighted. And, in some instances, the reporter believed at least one of them were still alive. Certainly that could not have been the case if these were merely misinterpreted crash test dummies.
Now, let's compare these reports with the dummies. The crash-test dummies were all over 6 ft tall, as they were meant to represent pilots, and any shorter would have been pointless. The jumpsuits were typically orange, or other bright colors to stand out in the desert. They were also hairless. Their faces were loosely meant to represent a human being, with normal sized features.
There appears to be an obvious discrepancy between what was reported and the crash test dummies themselves. In addition, not only were crash-test dummies not dropped from weather balloons, but the crash-test dummies were not being dropped by the Air Force at all until 1953! Six years after the wreckage was discovered in Roswell. When confronted with this information, the Air Force concluded that the memories of the witnesses must have been off, and they were linking two unrelated events. The Air Force points out that there were no reports of alien bodies in the newspaper or radio broadcast in 1947, and indeed there were not.
But were there really no reports of bodies anywhere at the time? It turns out, the Air Force themselves would provide the answer in a most unexpected way.
I take you back to General Ramey in Major Jesse Marcel's home with the wreckage of the weather balloon. [http://www.ufomystic.com/wp-content/uploads/roswell_ramey.jpg - General Ramey (left) holding a piece of paper.] For years, what has become known as the "Ramey Memo" tantalized those who supported the UFO hypothesis at Roswell. It was believed that if only that memo could be found, it would provide the information confirming what they had long suspected. Through the miracles of modern technology, we have been able to take the original negatives of the photos of Ramey holding the memo, blow them up, clear them up, and begin to read what little is possible from the memo. [http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_alien/ufowarning/images/warning03.jpg]
After much expert anolysis, some key words and phrases could be read. The word "disc" (quotation marks included in original context) can be identified, assuring us that we are looking at a memo about the Roswell crash. The most important finding, however, is the phrase victims of the wreck. Right there, in black and white, Ramey's own memo tells us that there was, at the very least, talk of "victims" at the crash site from the very beginning, in July 1947. Armed with the knowledge that crash-test dummies were not dropped until 1953 and were never dropped from Project Mogul weather balloons, we have it confirmed for us that the crash at Roswell was the crash of a manned vehicle.
OPERATION MAJESTIC-12
In the 1980's, several documents appeared from an anonymous source, sent to Jamie Shandera. These documents, along with others, detailed an alleged top secret organization of twelve men called Majestic-12 (or Majic-12 / MJ-12) instituted by President Harry S. Truman to deal with wreckage of a flying saucer and alien bodies retrieved from Roswell, New Mexico. [http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj6.jpg - http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj1.jpg - http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj2.jpg - http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj3.jpg - http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj4.jpg - http://www.ufocasebook.com/maj/mj5.jpg]
The US Government has denied the validity of these documents. There have been several skeptics and debunkers who have aimed to point out alleged flaws in the documents to prove they were fake, such as date formating, font sizes, the lack of top secret control numbers, among other things. However, examination of undisputed official documents from the same time period proves that none of these allegations disprove anything, as the same things found in the Majestic-12 documents can be found in official documents around President Truman's time in office, as well as before and after.
An important thing to note about the members of the Majestic-12 is the presence of "Dr. Donald Menzel." Dr. Menzel was a well-known UFO debunker during his life. The UFO researchers who were looking into these documents (before releasing them to the public) suspected this could have been some type of hoax. However, ufologist and nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman investigated Dr. Donald Menzel's life, and after obtaining permission from three separate people, discovered Menzel had lived a double life. In his other life, Menzel had top secret ultra clearances with the CIA and was close associates with Dr. Vannevar Bush--another alleged MJ-12 member. All of this was unknown to the public before Stanton Friedman's investigation.
Although many more Majestic-12 documents started popping up all over the place, only a select few actually held up to scrutiny. Many were debunked, mostly by the UFO investigators themselves. However, those that held up held up strongly. All claims to debunk the documents only helped to enforce their potential validity, as it came to be that only an insider could have access to all of the information necessary to hoax these documents with such careful attention to detail. Or else, the documents are authentic, and if so, are among the most important documents ever revealed to the public.
THE CONCLUSION
One of the last pieces of evidence to discuss is also one of the most important. Moon-walker and astronaut of the Apollo 14 mission, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, has come forward with a very important testimony. Dr. Mitchell grew up in the Roswell area, and after he had returned from the Moon, he was confronted by, what he refers to as "the old-timers" at Roswell. Several of them confided in him about the reality of alien bodies and flying saucer debris in 1947. Despite feeling all of these people to be trustworthy individuals by his judgment, Edgar Mitchell consulted with a close friend and high-ranking official in the Pentagon (who wished to remain anonymous) to look into this. Dr. Mitchell's friend was not aware of the story being true, but expressed that if it were true, that he (the Pentagon official) should know about it and even be in charge of the investigation! When the official looked into the matter, he relayed to Dr. Edgar Mitchell that he was told he did not have a Need-to-Know about that information.
Coming from a man of such extremely sound credibility, we are hard-pressed to write-off Edgar Mitchell's story. This confirms that whatever it was that happened in Roswell in 1947, it is still classified today. This is in direct conflict to the Air Force's claims that everything that happened in Roswell is all out in the open. It is at this point that we have no alternative but to acknowledge the Air Force's still-standing official explanation as a cover-story. To this day, over 60 years later, the Air Force continues to lie about what really happened in 1947.
If we cannot trust the Air Force to tell us the truth, then who can we trust? Many are understandably hesitant to accept the eye-witness accounts of alien bodies and unconventional material. Certainly the implications are extreme and discomforting. However, the evidence is there. The number of eye-witness reports of strange debris, alien bodies, and/or cover-ups by the government are in the hundreds now. With no where else to turn in search of the truth, is it so hard to believe that maybe those hundreds of eye-witnesses might be the ones telling it?
But what is it that these people really saw? Was it wreckage from a flying saucer from another planet visiting Earth? Were the bodies those of extra-terrestrial biological entities? Or is there some other terrestrial explanation shrouded by a series of unusual circumstances? Regardless, the evidence points to the Air Force covering up the true story for over 60 years. If it was the crash of alien visitors to planet Earth, then it is of extreme importance to the entire human race. If not, then what else could be responsible for such a strict and thorough cover-up, and of what significance to the public is that? Will the true story ever come out? Or will the Roswell Incident gradually fade away from public memory, remembered only as a mistake over a weather observation balloon? Or perhaps, remembered only by a select few as the day Earth was visited by intelligent beings from somewhere else.
Discuss.
