Inheritance...

So, I went back to Karthwasten on my way to another quest and a dragon attacked. I killed the dragon with some help from some soldiers and some brave miners (and a goat). When the dust had settled and the foul beast was dead I found, to my deepest sorrow, that the nice man Ainethach lay dead beneath the dragon (so did the goat). I did my best to give the man a proper burial (dragged him away under a low tree and threw some deathbells and a dragontounge on his chest). A few moments later I got a personal message from a courier saying that the Jarl was very sorry for my loss and that I had inherited from Ainethach 100 gold (minus a fee of 10 gold for administrative costs or someting). I guess he put a liking to me when I got his mines back for him... Anyone else seen this in the game?

Personally I think I should have inherited all of Kathwasten :-)

Had quite a few. The stable guy in Riften, when all I did was beat him in a fist fight, and the pickpocket trainer in Windhelm, who I always gave a gold piece to are the most recent ones I can remember.

This happens everytime a 'friend' dies, i.e. someone who you've done a 'favour' for to raise their disposition towards you.
I once collected a 100 gold inheritance from Rolff Stone-Fist (he's essential but I'm using a mod that makes him non-essential)
after I voiced my displeasure with his rampant racism towards everyone who wasn't a Nord, and beat him a fist fight.
I also won the Civil War for the Legion with that character, but still he took the time to write my character into his will.

It's a nice touch to the game but it doesn't make much sense at times.

I inherited money from two people that I'd killed  !! (But they were "friends", I killed them to improve a certain weapon.)

Same here, but only once. I'd done the
Spoiler
Destroy The Dark Brotherhood quest which I guess gave Commander Maro a big case of the warm fuzzies with regard to my character. But later I joined the Stormcloaks and decided for RP purposes that it would not be acceptable to have an outpost of the Emperor's personal guards and intel service in Haafingar while we were trying to take control of the hold. So I removed his essential tag in the console and snuck into their HQ in Dragonbridge and killed him and the other PO agent in there.

Snuck back out and was actually walking down the front steps of the building when a courier ran up with the letter informing me not only that Maro had died (ORLY?) but that he had left me something in his will because I was such a dear devoted friend. AWKWARD.

I had two friends (the Meat lady and the Blacksmith) die in a street brawl in Riften, one that I ignited by attacking Balgruf. I got letters of inheritance form both. I felt like such a bastard, I reloaded a previous save.

I know the weapon you speak of. When I acquire it, I stick it in a secure trunk, to ensure that no one can ever use it. I wish I could take it to an arcane enchanter and just obliterate the foul thing once and for all.
