Nation Based on Nation?

Post » Tue Sep 25, 2012 4:00 am

As far as I can see almost every nation (race) in TES is based on a real-world civilization. Cyrodiil is based on the Roman Empire, Skyrim on the Vikings (Norse), Hammerfell seems to be based on Arabic, desert dwelling people, and Highrock on Britain. I can't really see what the Kajiit, Argonians and Mer are based on (Or if they are even based on anything). Any ideas?

I think the Altmer are more britiany (the accents), but I dont know much about Breton culture, so I wouldn't know. Dont know much about Summerset isle either, besides them being a bunch of snobs. I thought bretons were french?

As a British person, I really want to see Highrock now. Tea and scones, all the way!

This kind of thing seems to pop up every once in a while. See http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1411968-races/.

Yes, but the Breton lands are often called "Bretony", seeming to point to the similarly named Brittany

Okay, "french" then. Both are in Western Europe and have a lot of similarities

Probably right. And the Argonians I have no clue. Native-American? Yeah no clue. I think Dunmer might have some asian influences somewhere. Akavir is probably loaded with them.

Since the Orc armor (especially in MW) looked like a Samurai armor I just assumed they were based on a Japanese theme. Their sense of honor also leans this way.

I think since this is a lore question, and there's already a topic open on the subject in the Lore forum, I'll lock this up now. :)
