Can't connect to Steam when installing Skyrim

Post » Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:54 am

I bought Skyrim on disc and I'm installing it at the moment, but when I try to create an account it gives me the message:

"Your computer is either currently unable to reach the Steam servers, or the service may be temporarily disabled. Please try again later."

I can't install Skyrim without creating the account and its driving me nuts, can anyone help me? Is there something I need to do?
I'm at the point where you create an account, I had to make an username and password for my account, when I click next that message comes up. Any ideas? Please?

Have you tried creating the account without the installation in progress?

You should be able to do so by running Steam on it's own.

Yeah I'm trying that but now Steam is taking the piss, the box where you have to type in the characters shown to verify your humanity are so small I have to zoom in to the maximum to see they are letters, and I can't make out what letters they are because they are so small. Why is this happening to me?!?!

This is the image I get when I have to verify my humanity, forgive me but I cant see how a human being could copy that into a text box.

That's not how it's supposed to look. I also just checked their site and it's like that on my end for the create page as well. It's probably an issue on their end (server or something like that, maybe a bad image batch or something). May want to browse their forums some. If that fails, you could try contacting them or something.

In any case, it's not really something that we can help with over on these boards though.

Edit:

Yep, they're having server issues. Just got word in my feed reader.

Sorry, I made my edit right as you posted. They're having server issues right now across the board. It happens every once in a while. Just be patient. :)

It varies based on what the issue actually is, so there's really no telling.
