Will Dishonored be any different than any other Beth Publish

Post » Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:33 pm

I am really liking the look of Dishonored, I really can't wait for it but Bethesda has a bad track record for published games. I thought Brink was going to be awesome and it ended up being terrible. I have friends that won't buy any Beth published games anymore because the ones they have bought have been complete crap. What makes Dishonored better than the past games? I am not trying to bash the game here because I like it myself, I am just seeing what other people think.

A few gimmicks aside, Bethesda have made probably the best moves I've seen from a publisher.

They approached Arkane with the idea of an assassin game made in the style of Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah because they really liked those games.

Three years pre-production period. That right there is insane. That is like telling Activision the next CoD game will be 15 dollars with free map packs to come later on...Yeah, it's that crazy and very important that they gave them that long of a pre-production period. It means they have a very clear vision with Dishonored and they've aimed to achieve it.

Seperate teams for each platform. Nobody is complaining about the PS3 version and overall that is a great call. Bethesda Game Studios might want to take notes at this point.

For the most part bringing in talent that can breathe life into this kind of game, and they've chosen very wisely. In every department, except arguably the voice acting, they've picked someone who can handle it great. Music, Writing, Level Design, Game Design, Graphical Direction and so on.

Overall the collective effort that is molding the game together is really inspiring. Let's hope the game inspires a lot of people into creating art that will bring quality and even more inspiration and joy to even more people.

That. If you need anything else you might want to just wait for the game to come out and here feedback.

Brink wasn't garbage, it just didn't live up to the hype. Besides, other than the Bethesda Game Studios developed games, the others published weren't so great. Still good but nothing worth the time and money.

The quality of those games (and this one) has nothing to do with Bethesda. Publisher doesn't mean crap.

Well, technically most publishers ARE in fact the cause for bad games. Be it quality control, pushing release dates, forcing developers to implement and/or work on projects that don't interest them, restricting development budget for marketing and so on. They do in fact have a role in the development process but not in Dishonored's case (at least not so much).

They wanted the studio to make a game that Arkane personally likes and they gave them a lot of creative freedom. Although, the release date is still too early and I believe they pushed it in front of most anticipated games and the pre-order bonuses. While those things take about 2 or 3 hours to code for a one man job, they still take away from time working on the actual game.

As it stands Bethesda have made a ton of good moves and almost arbitrary bad ones to the point of non-relevance. The experience people will have with this game will be great, I can say that for certain.

The only significant issue with gamesas might be pushing release dates a bit finely. Even if Brink didn't live up to the hype (I haven't played it), gamesas promoting it doesn't seem surprising to me; wouldn't you want your game to sell?

As one person whose name I forget once said "no-one's listening until you make a mistake", and Bethesda hasn't really made that many mistakes in the past.

Both Rage and Brink did reasonably. Although they are not really that good it was mostly the developer's fault. (and both games were actually kinda enjoyable)

I had fun playing Brink. There were some genuinely tense moments there trying to diffuse that damn rocket from going off. It just didn't have a very high replay value due to the repetative rinse and repeat nature of the gameplay.

Brink was fun and it had a competitive team focused vibe to it. It had issues though and that's what put people off. Even if it pulled off everything well it still wasn't going to be an amazing game. It was gonna be fun and it was gonna be played by a lot more people but nothing too amazing, Team Fortress 2 would still be more dominant. Fun game that didn't have a lot of luck.

If the game ends up bad [which it wont] its more arkanes fault not beths.

Bethesda fanboyism aside, they have been making a lot of right choices and Arkane have as well. The game definitely won't be bad. 100% above average but it still might have problems. It will definitely be a lot of fun and the work put into it still matters more than 90% of the industry. Making me actually care for a game is no easy feat.

Because it had Fallout in the title. The rest were new IPs just like Dishonored is.
