Best method to sell music.

Post » Wed Sep 26, 2012 4:22 pm

I'm going to designing a website for a client, but also do a bit of developer work. The purpose of the website is to update people on their music and also provide their music to buy. What would be the best method for selling their music digitally over the website?

After looking around some, I've seen quite a few people use CDBaby. Has anyone heard of it and/or know how the process for that goes?

I like the way Bandcamp does it. The artist provides .WAV files, the distributor convert them to various other formats depending on what the buyer wants. Or you could sell high bitrate MP3 (LAME V0, or 320kbps) and charge a little extra for a lossless format like FLAC or ALAC.

I'd go with this. It's great, you can see if you actually want to buy the album or not by listening to it first. It shows their discography and everything. You could also just have like a link to blog or something to keep their news more organized than having downloads and news on the same website.

I was just looking at bandcamp. It does look pretty good. Really good, actually. I shall let them know when I meet up on Friday. ^.^ Now to see how to integrate it into the site.

@vault boy101:

I was just going to use Wordpress as the CMS and have the blog/news as a separate page.

Yes, the bandcamp!

You can even have you own domain though I'm not sure if that's extra. http://ephixa.com/ for example has his own.

Then I'd use Twitter for band updates.

That looks pretty sweet. I think I'm going to enjoy messing with Wordpress, though.
