I'd really like to fix this so I can play again and actually craft. Makes parts of the game utterly unplayable.

I didn't notice anything about your issue however why do you have the High res texture pack fix without the high res texture packs?

If you look at the first image, you'll see the issue.

I'm using the mod work-around for the texture packs.
