Anti-Aliasing?

Post » Fri Sep 28, 2012 8:08 am

Anyone know what kind of Anti-Aliasing solution will be implemented in the PC version of the game?
This is kinda important to me as seeing jaggies just drive me insane. It would be great if the game came with some real AA solutions so there's no hassle for me to force AA into the game.

I plan to run the game on a Downsampled Resolution of 2560x1440, this should takecare of most of the jaggies, but there's still going to be some left that needs taking care of, I'm hoping the in-game AA can takecare of that. But if there is no In-game AA, I hope that I will be able to atleast inject SMAA into the game if or use Nvidia's Driver Based FXAA. But I have no idea if the game will allow one of them , or both.

Forcing real Anti-Aliasing solutions would be alot better though but again I dont know if that would be possible. If the game even is compatible with the AA flags we have now.

I read somewhere here you have your choice of MLAA or FXAA.

If that is true then that's good, it would be better if it was real AA solution though but I'll take what I can get.
I just hope that I can atleast combine that ingame FXAA with injected SMAA as I know Downsampling + FXAA wont be enough to eliminate all the jaggies.

I run some of my games that cant force real AA solutions with a combination of Downsampled Resolution + SMAA + Nvidia FXAA, and its fine, the jaggies are gone but the downside to that is the blur the FXAA produces. Its fine but it really takes a hit on the texture quality.

But if I can do that with this game then I'll be happy.

Yeah Im not too sure about other anti alaising solutions just remember someone saying that the ps3 will use mlaa and 360 will use fxaa, and the pc version you can choose.

Well the screenshots on Steam look completely fine to me, dont see any jaggies really. If the In-game AA lets me achieve that then its great.

I'm guessing FXAA is in effect here as its a bit blurry. But again it looks great.

That's called bullshot. They're running the game on dev PCs with a custom resolution and FOV, and a whole boatload of tricks that aren't in the actual game.

I'm not particularly worried, mind you. As long as there's AA at all, I'm happy. I just can't stand crappy console ports that don't even have the option. It's seriously one of the most offensive things to my eyes in terms of graphical fidelity. It kills my immersion.

As I said in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1403824-pc-system-requirements-for-dishonored-announced/page__view__findpost__p__21435838:

On PC the game will let you choose either FXAA or MLAA; up to you to see which one you like best !

Note: I can hear already people telling that you can force MSAA 16x and Aniso 16x in your GPU control panel, but we do not advise anyone to do so, since when doing so the game has no control over the way these settings will process the picture, which might result in a loss of quality.
