Need help from 3D Vision PC users...

I recently upgraded to a BenQ XL2420T monitor and I bought the 3D Vision 2 pack to go with it. Initially when looking for a new monitor the 120Hz refresh rate was my main interest (for smoothness in driving sims) but after reading from various sources about how good Skyrim is in 3D I decided to buy the 3D Vision pack as well.

Anyway, here's the main problem - Skyrim barely looks 3D at all.

When I installed the 3D drivers I ran the Nvidia setup wizard and the 3D test thing (where is shows you the Nvidia logo in 3D) - that bit was great, I actually felt like I could reach out and touch the logo floating in mid air, so I know my system is working and I know my eyes are okay for looking at 3D content.

Obviously I'm not expecting Skyrim to look as impressive as a specially designed test by Nvidia, but Skyrim hardly looks any different to how it looks in 2D. I even tested it by turning off the 3D Vision mid-game and switching to 2D - I couldn't really tell the difference. Maybe when the snowflakes are coming towards you in a blizzard they look slightly 3D, but I think I might just be imagining that one... apart from that there's nothing.

I've installed the Helix patch so the shadows are okay - I don't have any issues like that anymore, it just doesn't look 3D.

I've also checked the simple things - yes the glasses and the 3D Vision emitter are definitely on, and I know it's doing something because the menu's have a slight 3D look to them, but the game itself has nothing.

I'm not expecting lots of pop-out moments of course, but I thought 3D created a depth to the image, so that things in the distance look further away? There is absolutely none of that for me. I've tried increasing the 3D depth with the wheel on the emitter but I couldn't see any difference when going from 15% all the way to max. I also read about the 'convergence' setting so I enabled the shortcuts and tried adjusting that - again I couldn't see what it was doing.

I started to think "maybe i'm just expecting too much?" or "maybe my eyes need time to get used to it?", but then I found this screenshot...

When I look at that screenshot in 3D Vision mode it looks great - I can see the 3D easily and it's very impressive, I can actually see the depth in the image.

Is that what Skyrim is supposed to look like when I'm playing it? Because if it is I can understand why the 3D reviews were so positive, but mine doesn't look anything like that screenshot when i'm in-game.

I should mention I have very little experience of 3D technology - apart from a few cinema trips this is my first real look at it.

So i'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to improve my game, and of course I'd like to know if the game is supposed to look similar to the screenshot above, because if it is then at least I know for sure something is wrong.

Thanks for any help or advice. :)

Sounds like need so scour the NVidia and/or Skyrim Hardware and Software support forums for a solution... rather than asking in the Skyrim General Discussion about your issue.
