Roleplaying Rules

Post » Mon Oct 01, 2012 1:55 pm

I plan to start a strict Roleplaying character in Skyrim later on today, and I just want to know what you guys think when it comes to rules I should follow. I'm not going for a DID playthrough, not that strict, but what do you guys do when you play a RP character?

It depends entirely on your perception.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Roleplaying Oblivion wiki article has some neat ideas, but roleplaying is about characterizing and developing your character so you should just go by what you feel your character would do, making the 'rules' (if any) as you go along.

Oh, for tips, base yourself around 'character knowledge'. Remember that they have no idea about the outcomes of quests and things like that, nor can they view the world as objectively as a player can. Develop a personality for the character and do what it says on the tin: play the role.

Dead is dead is the only thing I've done when I RP in Skyrim. That includes reloading, ever. (just when you continue playing again another day).

I can RP with a bunch of mods, such as imp's more complex needs, chesko's frostfall etc, but not without them.

But overall, you could try to eat on a regular basis, only carry one-three weapons, one set of armor, not use healing potions in combat, sleep when it gets dark, etc.
Edit: Also, as Arcona Cor said, giving your character a personality and always acting according to it (instead of "what will give me the most reward/benefit"), can be added to the mix.

Sleep often, eat/drink periodically.

You can't be slaying dragons if you're thin as a rail and you can't even keep your eyes open!

I like these. I'm gonna take some time to write a good backstory and restrict myself to doing things I couldn't actually do(besides the obvious fantasy things in the game). Thanks guys.

Quoting myself from another thread [you should be on PC for some of these]:

- compass and quest markers disabled
- health regen disabled
- timescale set to 6
- fast travel disabled [thanks to http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11414 mod. I know I know, one can just avoid fast traveling, but the temptation is high]
- I rarely look at the map, if ever - I use Clarvoyance instead
- I often have from two to four followers with me [thanks to http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15524/ mod]
- I rarely use carriages, I always walk or ride my trustworthy Shadowmere, along with my followers horses [thanks to http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14950 mod]
- I don't carry more than a certain amount of stuff with me, excluding my own weapons and armor [everything else is in the horses inventory] - this is accomplished by player.modav carryweight amount [where amount is how much you would add or subtract from your current carryweight - I'm fine with a total 30 carry weight]
- used the player.setav 0 console command to set to 0 any skill not related to my character. A nice consequence is that you must be trained to start with smithing, for instance [you can't even sharpen a blade unless you have at least 14 in smithing]
- I never loot "good" people bodies, it's out of my character. Even more, I never loot armor parts from enemies [eww]. Why those should fit my size anyway?
- I eat and sleep on a regular basis and if possible sit at a table first
- everytime I go to bed I always undress and put my gear in a closet, unless I'm out in the wilds

for me rules are

1 dead is dead
2 eat/drink at least twice a day -always find a place to sit
3 seep every night -always take off my armor/weapons
4 while swimming must take off my armor and weapons
5 wash myself in river/waterfall every few days
6 have house and family to come home after my adventures
7 no fast travels

My current rules:

Im playing as a Merchant so i don't wear any armour, just plain clothes, with gloves and hood and boot armour maybe.
Im trying to stay away from fights and hire as many bodyguards i can.
For now im using many mods and first of all TUNDRA DEFENCE which allows You to build your entire cottage in the game.
Next one essential to merchant style of play is Economics of skyrim and Bank of Skyrim.
So im just travel from my city to others in Skyrim to trade goods! And constantly improve my own little town!

(i ALREADY FINISHED Main Quest and many others so now im experimenting and i must say it is a great fun)

Rule to play dead is dead is too harsh for me right now.
