Since I am not allowed to post links, I replaced all "." in URLs with "_".

Here is the store page for Dishonored: www_zest_co_th/content/view/id/11975/

The first commenter asked if Dishonored can be installed using Steam. The retailer's staff (3rd comment) answered that Dishonored need to be installed through GFWL.

Now, from all the information I have read on the Internet, Dishonored is known to be a Steamworks game. I wonder if GFWL version is exclusive only to my country?

I know that many game developers decided to use GFWL when they release games in Thailand. Probably to prevent people from selling Steam key online, since PC games are much cheaper here.

I just want a confirmation whether that information is true before I pre-order the game; What version of the game I will really get when I buy Dishonored in Thailand, Steam or GFWL?

By the way, I tried to contact Betheada directly through gamesas_com/en-gb/contact. For some reason, the submit button does not work (tried with Firefox 15 and IE 9).

Pretty sure your retailer is wrong regarding this.

I'm almost certain your retailer is confusing GFW (Games for Windows) with GFWL (Games for Windows Live).

The first is an indication that the game has been tailored to the Windows OS, and that it should play especially well on it. The second is DRM.

Dishonored is a GFW game. It is not a GFWL game, AFAIK.

I'm assuming that the person who told you that made the mistake of reading "Games for Windows" on the PC cover as if it was "Games for Windows Live." They're completely different, but it's something that still seems to confuse people from time to time.

EDIT: Beat by a few seconds :P

I really hope that it was an error on retailer's part. It was a pain dealing with GFWL support when the game does not work, especially when your country is not officially supported by GFWL. I still don't understand why Microsoft still allows GFWL games to be sold in unsupported countries.

Anyway, is there a way I can get official response on this so I can send it to the retailer? Do Bethesda staffs frequently reply on this forum? As I stated above, I still cannot contact Bethesda through official contact page.

Arkane often posts on the forums about important technical stuff like this. Someone official should be able to give you a reply soon; if not today, tomorrow.

It can't be GFWL if it uses Steamworks.

There are a fair share of games out there that use both, like Batman: Arkham City (which also use SecuROM on top of all this).

I said Steamworks, not Steam. A GFWL game can be on Steam. Dishonored is just GFW which means it runs on the Windows OS.

Sometime developers release their games in several versions. Torchlight, for example, has a version that use Steamwork and another version that does not, depend on where you buy the game.

True. Thankfully Dishonored is only GFW. People really need to change that icon because it's kinda confusing.

Dark Souls is Steamworks and also GFWL. No option to get it it anywhere but Steam.

Yeah, yeah, my bad and all that jazz. The point is that the similarity in icons between GFW and GFWL is confusing people and yet they are nothing alike.

I think the question has been answered: Dishonored won't be using GFWL, the retailer must have confused it with the 'Games For Windows' logo most PC games have these days. So I'm going to lock this.
