Will the PC version suffer from all the same common release

Post » Wed Oct 03, 2012 7:15 am

Lately it seems most if not all multi platform releases that include the PC suffer from at least one, but typically a few of the below issues,

bad mouse input (lag, acceleration, lack of raw input)
small FOV
poor camera control (not applicable to first person, typically)
lack of graphics options
lack of control customization

Even a game like Skyrim, which gets endless praise (as it should) for being a complete masterpiece suffers from the same issues Oblivion had. Luckily input issues can be fixed with an .ini edit and the fov is fixed with a console command. Despite the ease of fixing i still feel like the laziness on the part of the developer or the cheap ass publisher not taking the time right out of the gate is starting to ware on me. Darksiders 2, Sleeping Dogs, Prototype 2 all fall into this category. At least with Darksiders 2 and Sleeping Dogs they eventually patched the issues out to a reasonable degree, i still wouldn't say its "correct", it's "better than it was".

Maybe it's just me? Maybe as long as the game is good on paper that's enough. But in all the way's i actually 'play' the game, control the character, and interact with what are usually beautifully created worlds are okay left as secondary considerations?

I like Arkane, i like pretty much every game they have made. Hell, i still install Dark Messiah once a year and play 3/4ths of the game before it get's boring again. I would love to show my support and preorder. i don't even mind the higher-than-normal price tag, i get that this was an expensive endevour and inflation is a fact of life. but i'll be damned if i buy another prototype 2 at full price. I would have much rather waited for darksiders 2 and sleeping dogs until after the patches so i can actual play the game closer to the state it was intended to be played at for the full experience.

I'm not even sure what im looking for here. reassurance i guess. but even that is hard to take at face value, even from the developer. No developer is going to come out and say "yeah, we kinda skimped on the PC port piece. Controls and stuff are not as refined as on the Xbox but, hey, the 360 SDK makes implementing pad controls easy, and we just dont have the time or budget to make the PC controls as good as they should be." Who would intentionally effect their sales negatively? We either get silence, or lies.

well that ended up being a long winded tirade in the end. no offence to Arkane, i have no idea if your game even suffers from this. it's just the state of video games at present. either the devs or the publishers or indeed both seem to think these are acceptable deficiencies. i think that's a load of [censored].

The PC version will have a separate interface and better graphics (and a heck load of customisation), take a look at this;

Hahahaha, it's funny to see "OMG FOV slider day 1? Pre-order for me!" at least I'm not the only one. Thanks for the link inDIGnation. I'll do a little more peeking around and maybe i'll pull the trigger on the pre-order. I'm still skeptical without reading a 3rd party review.

Not entirely sure if it's true, but I heard that Dishonored isn't a PC port. It was made for PC then ported to consoles. And as Arkane has history in PC gaming I doubt they made Dishonored with a 'just get a gamepad' mindset.

They had different teams working on the different platforms, building them from the ground up; so those who were keen PC or console developers would work separately on their desired platform. So I'm confident it won't just be a Ctrl-C Ctrl-V port; plus first-person is always better with the mouse & keyboard.

Let me consult my Magic 8-Ball ...

"Signs are good."

There you have it. Magic 8-Ball says you won't have any problems with this title.
