How long does my 360 have before it explodes ...

Post » Wed Oct 03, 2012 8:54 am

so recently when i 1st turn it on the Disc tray refuses to open i have to either press the open button twice or turn on the console then turn it off and then back on again to get it to open ...

and then with certain games like Black Ops it will make a low humming/growling noise from behind the power button untill it starts reading the game from the hard drive (if its installed otherwise will keep making said noise untill take game out of the tray)

Sounds like your laser is going out.

Had the same issues as you, then eventually it stopped altogether, I replaced the laser unit myself, never had an issue since.

If you need more info on such things, PM me. (Not willing to talk about voiding warranties and such openly)

Trust me, it is your laser, nothing more, nothing less. It'll cost you a few quid and half an hour to repair. Or you can get charged £100+ by MS to fix it for you.

If you're still under warranty, just take it to the store you got it from. First call MS and get a ticket number though.

I did that when mine RRoD'd and I was surprised by how fast and easy it was. Customer service was surprisingly nice, and no wait whatsoever.

If you're not under warranty, you'll be treated like garbage, and expected to pay for it.

His issue is so easy to resolve, I wouldn't send it back to MS even if it had warranty, it's literally a 30 min job tops. In the UK atleast, sending your box to MS could mean you won't see it for 3 months.

not long man. Ive had two different 360's and they both lasted about a year to a year and a half and both died, i never moved them or left them on either, i actually took pretty good care of them.
After the second one, i swore off 360s and gave all my games away and now i have a ps3 that ive had for 4 years and its still fine.
I know a few other people who are on their 3rd, 4th or even 5th 360, haha, svckers.
I dont understand how you'd even get to 5 xbox's. Isnt that the definition of insanity? buying 360s over again hoping they dont die like the previous ones?

But it seems to me xbox 360s have an average lifespan of about a year (though i know a few people who have had one for 3 years without it dieing, i still know way too many people whove had it a year to a year and a half and it dies.)

For using both the consoles, the only thing that i think 360 has over my ps3 is being able to play music while playing any game, otherwise i like the ps3 more (like not having to pay a subscription to play online games for example).

I've got a black 360, also have problems opening it. I have to press it about a hundred times to get it open and tip the console this way and that, but it eventually opens.

My 360 was purchased in '06

Still on my first box.

Probably helps that I can repair most things that have gone wrong over the years though.

This is EpicFail we're talking about. If he replaces his own laser, we won't see him for a year, and he'll come back a cyborg.

Lmfao!

I am sorry to the community for the possible loss of EpicFail. :P

Rest assured, I'll do the best I can to help him through this via PM's.

What use is knowledge if I don't pass it along?

Why? Warranties aren't illegal to break. In fact, they are 100% legal to break because they are contracts that specify what terminates the contract (replacing the hardware yourself or at the end of a fixed term, whichever occurs first)

I had the white 360 with the silver tray, I got it way back when 360 first came out. The only way the tray would open is if there was weight in it. I always had to keep a disk in it otherwise it would take me forever to get that damn thing to open. It to made strange noises when it would go to read a disk or open the tray. Eventually a power surge damaged the Ethernet port and I could no longer go on xbox live so I bought a new slim.

Past experiences on other communities.

I've been flamed before for posting such material openly, which did confuse me as a quick google search brings everything I said in finer detail.

I wasn't sure about this place, not worth the hassle, hence I prefer PM.
