Avengers movie: rent or buy?

Post » Fri Oct 05, 2012 1:34 pm

I haven't seen it yet so i would like some opinions on the movie (without spoilers) and if it's worth buying or just renting. I see its on zune now but that zune is a trixky one, they have an extended version with an hour of extra footage but its a buy only...the rental version is what was in theaters.

i'm not big on comic movies but thought a few were decent and i like to watch movies with extra footage so i'm on the fence here

Rent it. It's a nice action movie, but overall, nothing memorable. The movie doesn't have much of a story, and you don't really take anything out from the experience, other than: "Well... that was kind of cool."

Opinions seem to vary widely. I'd say rent, then buy if you love it. I enjoyed it, but not enough to buy.

For me, most superhero, blockbuster, and action movies are good for a quick thrill but nothing worth buying.

I just watched it today actually. I saw it in theaters but it was in dumb 3D which literally ruins the entire movie for me so it was almost like I hadn't seen it.

I really liked the movie so I bought it. What they did with it was completely unprecedented. All the heroes original movies all had elements that lead up to The Avengers. I really dig superhero movies anyway.

As with all movies, highly subjective. Which is why I hate when people give an end-all opinion on a film; it just doesn't make sense to do that.

Have you seen any of the prequel films? If you liked those, I guarantee you will like Avengers. It's a really fun movie, and typical of modern superhero movies it has great action choreography, oh and lots of set up for punchlines lol.

I liked it a lot. I thought it was a great action movie, and I found the villian (Loki) was a pretty interesting character.

Rent. There are worse ways to spend two hours of your time, but it's nothing amazing.

Where can you rent videos? Here in alberta all video rental stores (blockbuster/rogers video etc) have disappeared for being obsolete in the last couple years, theres literally nowhere to rent from anymore.

Id buy it, mostly because i got nowhere to rent movies from anymore (haha) but also cus i thought it was a pretty good movie. Probably one of the best marvel movies out there i thought. I never saw thor or iron man 2 cus i wasnt interested in it at all, but i really thought that the avengers was good ( i went into the movie thinking it was gonna svck balls and only went under circumstance, and i came out thinking that it was badass).

Im gonna buy it at any rate nextime im through a wal mart or whatever and see it.

Lol, I thought you were gonna say, "here in Alberta, videos rent you". Last time I went to a blockbuster it was so jacked up. Prices were crazy and they want you to sign up to all their packages and stuff. You can tell that franchise is going downhill fast thanks to things like Netflix, rentals on demand, and those dvd rental kiosks.

true, this question is based off personal opinions and tastes which might differ from mine. I was looking for a reason to buy but am leaning towards renting...even more so since most people are saying the same thing i was thinking ;)

as for where to rent, i rent from zune on xbox because blockbuster is out of business by me as well and netflix doesn't carry alot of new movies.

If you like the characters and have seen the prequel films and enjoyed them, you will definitely enjoy this. It has great special effects, it's action packed, and it's fun. Very enjoyable for me, but I watched it in the cinema, and films like these are always more fun in theatres.

So I'd say rent. Great fun while it lasted, but not a classic, and not something I'd watch over and over.

Edit: A note though, don't watch it expecting Schindlers List 2. There is next to no story, and it's not trying to be artistic or thought provoking. It's a throwaway weekend action flick you can sit back and pop open a few beers to. ;)

I just saw the movie last night, myself, via on-demand.

I'd say rent it. It's enjoyable enough, but nothing special. They tried a little, but the ensemble cast makes it difficult to give them any depth, and by trying to give it to them you have a lot less "action." But the humor was good and the effects were fun. I still think the first IronMan was the best film of the whole series, but that's just me.
