So I'm running skyrim on my PC and I'm encountering two types of crashes. The first one, the game totally freezes and my computer locks up. It requires a manual reset to get it back. The second type also requires a manual reset, however, the freeze looks different. While the screen is entirely locked up, the sounds starts buzzing and becomes very staticy. The only way I can think of describing it is like a vinyl record that is skipping over and over and over on one spot. It's fairly random, at least to me. Sometimes I'm just walking around a town, sometimes it's immediately after a loading screen, etc. I tried to pinpoint when and what the issue was but couldn't pinpoint. Also, I play other graphically intensive games without such issues. I have a DxDiag below. I appreciate any help with this. Just picked this up for the first time on steam a few days ago (thanks sales!) and can't pinpoint the damn issue...I've been looking at forums and it seems there are lots of issues like mine with this game and about 10,000 solutions. I don't know where to start...

Hi there, I've just had this very same issue, it was plaguing me since Skyrim's release. I couldn't work it out, I asked a similar question to yours here on the forums and some helpful members had a good go at troubleshooting with me (I'm not the most tech savvy). Nothing helped, but everything pointed to a GPU issue.

To cut a long story short,I bit the bullet and took it to the local tech shop, they ran it thru their benchmarking programs and could not fault the card. But they still had the same issues with Skyrim. On a whim they tried a different GPU in my rig and Skyrim ran faultlessly. They pushed it to the max and didn't find any problems. Seems that there was just something that Skyrim and my GPU didn't like about each other. In the end I updated the GPU (Went from an AMD card to Nvidia in the process) and have not had a fault since!
