Feeling late to the Party?..

Post » Sat Oct 06, 2012 12:51 pm

Now I do not know if it's only me, I might just be feeling some overreacting feelings as a typical European right now...
But right now I've heard of people that have purchased or received early copies of Dishonored and is playing as I write,
on top of that both France and the US will have a 3 days headstart and Australia and Spain will have one days headstart to the game.

I just feel sort of.. late to the party, I feel less excited now about the release, because I will be lacking behind everyone else about this game, and I'm afraid someone will throw a spoiler at me or well.. Yeah I just feel a huge feeling of dissappointment when big parts of the EU is last to the party to play the game, it won't feel the same when everyone else have already beaten the game by then or the liking.

Am i exxagerating here or do anyone feel a bit the same?
This is pretty much a thing only able to be answered by Europeans, as we're the only ones in this boat sadly.

Actually, you are not exaggerating at all. I personally spoiled myself with a lot of things and saw a lot of footage, now the release feels barely existent at this point. It's really close yes, and I have a ton of work to do so I can't focus on it right now.

I would suggest you go on a media blackout until it is released in the EU. I kinda did that because I was silenced for being an idiot and because I had a lot of work to do with my real life issues. When I came back and received all of the information I wanted to know for so long now, I felt overwhelmed with joy. But that's just me because I love to know things and absorb information, other people might find different ways to experience the same things.

Like I said, go on a media blackout, wait a few more days, and once the game is out you can enjoy it yourself without the fear of missing out on something or being late to the party. You'll just immerse yourself in the game and enjoy it for what it is.

Now, i may not be European but I can see how that would make the game feel a little lackluster. It's a little disappointing assuredly.

Tell me about it.. 90% of the time us Euro's get the game 2-3 days later than everybody else, but once in awhile we get a game first.. and the U.S people start to rage like crazy.
Same with Movies.. always a delay for us Euro's. No wonder people sign up to torrent sites.

Here in australia and in NZ we are usually paying $20 - $70 more than the rest of the world for our games, and they are released 2 - 4 days late!
Would you pay say $30 more to get it on day 1?

Ouch, yeah I feel with ya there!
But the thing with Dishonored for me is.. different than other games, I've never waited this long for a game ever,
I've never been this excited and so in love with the artwork, the depth, the story and just.. everything, it is indescribable!
And now I have to wait a whole week while everyone gets a whack at it before me, it reeally is a let down, especially when it's Dishonored, my most beloved anticipated game.

You can't blame your country's currency and taxes. I guess you earn more then?
In Norway (next to Sweden) everything is 20% more expensive than here in Sweden.. so Norweigans go over the border to shop here.. BUT, they have a bigger salary/income every month.

I know how you feel. I may be getting the game on the 9th. But it irks me to know that some lucky people got the game early, while everyone else has to painstakingly wait three days (or more) to get our hands on Dishonored.

Not only are we often late to the party, more often then not we also get to pay more to attend the party in the first place, AND (in the case Microsoft is involved) we are denied free partyhats that ARE made available to US residents only. Funny, companies have no problem taking European currency, yet when it comes to giving out extra's suddenly we don't exist anymore. Look at the companies offering pre-order bonusses. USA or UK. Europe isn't just the UK, game companies! It's not like we can just swim over the canol to pop into a gamestore in Britain, and unlike most Americans, not all Europeans have creditcards. Usually, without a creditcard you CAN NOT order from a UK company and have your game delivered in the Netherlands... It's time we started to feel some love people...

Yeah it's my understanding that quite alot of people in Netherlands don't use credit cards, which can significantly screw things over.
And yeah Europe just isn't recognized as one big market with a substantial possible income, it's just ignored completely by especially American companies.
Anywho, remember! This is NOT Arkane but Bethesda who are the ones to blame here, they are publishing and distributing in this case.
However it just is a typical matter that Europe is always late to the party, and we have to pay more, and even have no inclusions when it comes to bonuses and competitions and prizes.

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about: Gamespy is giving away Goodie bundles to the 3 people that post the most creative way to 'off a Whaler'...

Sure enough, I look up the competition and find the sentence: 'Open to US residents only (we know, sorry! It's a customs thing).

Now, this MAY just be me, but I'm guessing the 'customs thing' would be cleared up real fast if they were selling the goodie bundle in stead of giving it away for free. Imagine me giving them actual money for stuff, and they go "Oh we're so sorry, we can't take your money: It's a customs thing". Will never happen.

Fashionably late, so long as no-one blathers any spoilers before the 12th.

I do feel the same. At this point I'm really careful with the media surrounding dishonored, and from 9 to 12 October I'll go for a blackout.
I really don't see why they need to release all the games on fridays here. Shouldn't a shop decide for their selves?
And when a game releases on tuesday, the overall sales might be more because people won't have to import from America to get the game earlier.
It's a stupid idea, and I'd like to see the justifications for it.

well im originally form NZ and can say that australians earn twice as much but still pay the same for games once you take exchange rate into account.
prime example.... i buy from a uk based store when i dont want a day 1 game, and this store sells the new RE6 for $61.00au to my door but its $99.99 on psn and upto $120 in stores! Why do we pay more than america when our dollar is equal if not a few cents more than theirs? and dont say taxes cause thats not it.
