There doesn't have to be motivation. This is Texas, a part of the United States, a part of North America, a part of Earth.

People kill people sometimes.

Because that furthers any understanding of this case. There is almost always a motivation for these kinds of things. When there isn't? People just cannot find it. It could be something that makes no sense but it still may have led to what this kid did. Our brains are funny. A series of chemical reactions can sometimes have unforeseen consequences. But understanding them is still important.

I feel bad for the father and older sisters. [censored] man, worse things happen but this is still messed up. The kids reaction especially.

I'm sorry, but it took 25 minutes for cops to respond to a double murder?

What the [censored]?

Well, that's because in Texas the "western shootout" happens just about everyday. That state sure loves their guns.

It's terrible, of course, but when the word "motive" is thrown around, it suggests things like "greed" or "envy" or "six". The kid just thought he was evil. He just acted on an intuition because he felt like it would change things.

Probably because there wasn't any threat of more death? The kid was turning himself in and there were no signs of further victims.

Wow, I can only guess he had some sort of depression or undiagnosed disorder. Amazing how something like this can happen without (as far as we know) any warning signs.

Moral of the story: cops are great at cleaning up crime scenes after the act, but not much else.

I'm going to go with hyrule one this one, most likely an undiagnosed disorder. Maybe Reneer, if he stumbles on this thread, will have a good guesstimate as to what disorder would have caused him to act in such a fashion.

Seriously.

This kid clearly has a severe mental illness. We may never know whether there were signs before this tragedy or not.

Also, this 911 operator is one of the greatest human beings I've heard in a while. She's talking on the phone with someone who just murdered his mother and sister, but she still manages to keep her cool and stay in control of the situation. You can tell by the tone of her voice that she actually cares. It's just a shame that he didn't get help before he decided to commit this horrible act.

I'm not a psychologist, but it sounds like Schizophrenia to me.

...characterized by a breakdown of thought processes and by poor emotional responsiveness.
The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young advlthood...
