No midnight release in the OC....

Post » Tue Oct 09, 2012 2:17 pm

GameStop said none of their stores in my entire county are having a midnight release :/
Not to mention they open at 11am now instead of 10?!
I was meant to suffer the wait for this game... I suppose I can wait until tomorrow afternoon...

Anybody else encountering no midnight release from GameStop?

They used to do midnight releases all the time, lately, they haven't been doing them for anything besides ongoing franchises, pretty disappointed.
My friend that works there said he called their corporate headquarters and asked them if he could open early tomorrow as sell the game at 8-9 am and they said no. He tried, he is my hero. Haha.

All I can say is, we are millions in the EU that has to wait till Friday, so you are still better off than us, think in those lines to feel better ;)

Yeah not many stores are doing midnight releases it depends on the preorders they get.

Compared to that, I can't feel upset. I'm sorry that you guys have to wait so long, if it makes you feel better, I was stationed in Germany when I was in the army, we used to get the games actually on time with US dates though... I think... But I remember a couple games we had to wait for the EU ship date....

I'm going to stop talking because I just failed horribly.

The point is. I want us all to have the game now. So we can be happy. Haha

The first and last mid night release i went too was for Skyrim, sadly they don't do it for all games and im not even sure how they go about having a midnight release. It is a shame though.

i just called my gamestop an hour ago in mass, usa they are not doing one either for dishonored. which i find oddly strange that its going like that since the game is going to be great game maybe they dont want a riot on their hands when they dont have any tarot decks for the rest of the people that preordered. heh

but seriouly why are they not having one is beyond me unless they dont want people just to come in and buy xcom too that would make it stupid since both games come out on the same day

They have to have a serious amount of pre-orders before they even start a Midnight Release. Every store keeps track of the pre-orders on it's games and sends those numbers to Corporate, through the computer, anyway, once those are tallied up they give an overall go ahead on a Midnight Release or not. It seems, since I also called my GameStop, they did not meet the requirements to have a Midnight Release anywhere.

This knowledge comes from being a Third Key/Asst Manager at GameStop for roughly 2 years. Anyway, the only people we have to blame for this are those who think Dishonored will not be worth their time, thus wrote it off and went on about their days and bought stuff like COD, etc. Already, Dishonored is being called a, "Sleeper Hit". Odd considering the high scores it's received.

That's alright though, we all know it's potential, Sleeper Hit or not, it will be a lovely time in Dunwall.

EDIT: Also GameStop is still open at 10 A.M., 9 AM during the Holiday season. That still hasn't changed.

That does not surprise me as GS' Corporate is in Texas. For individual stores though it will be none, though it really depends on how many pre-orders they've recieved, I'd check your own GameStop to make sure. Most of them haven't though, from what my friends around the US have said.

The gamestops in Orange County California wont be having a midnight release. I called 10 stores.
And for some reason, all of them said they are opening at 11am instead of 10am tomorrow :/

Weird, wonder what's going on over there. I know my former Regional Manager would have thrown himself into a tantrum if he knew we were opening a hour later than we should. Sorry about that, on the one hand you'll still be getting it. It will just be later than some other US Stores.

Why would any Gamestop have a midnight release for a new IP ever? That literally never ever happens.

Gamestop in Derby, Kansas is having a Midnight Release.

I asked them about it several days ago, they said they weren't sure. Yesterday they called me (I never game them my name, but they know my voice, as a regular customer, lol) to say they were in fact having one for Dishonored.

KANSAS gets a midnight release and I live fifty miles from Boston and there's no store within 100 miles doing a midnight launch? There's something wrong here.

I do admit I'm kind of surprised that my local Gamestop has enough pre-orders to justify a midnight release. Derby is only a city of about 30,000.

All indications thus far have been that, as one earlier poster said, Dishonored would be a 'sleeper hit' (a term used by the local Gamestop Manager, too. lol).

When I spoke with them today to confirm the midnight release, the manager told me to arrive at 11:30 and they'd definitely have me in and out in a jiffy. Doesn't sound like they'll be too busy...

I went to a midnight release for Skyrim and I got home, played for an hour and fell asleep. I doubt I'll ever do that again, wasn't worth it. I thought I was a night person too. :(

Mine isn't and neither did PSN. I don't have doubts about the quality of the PS3 version of Dishonored, but Day One is a sham from what they implied. I wouldn't recommend buying on the network for that particular reason, but there won't be anything wrong with the service itself I'm sure if you're a fan of digital purchases. And I will shut up now about this since it's only a matter of hours.
