Pre Order Bonuses - Are they worth it?

Post » Wed Oct 10, 2012 4:10 am

I've been looking through the trailers and reviews and I have to say, this game looks impressive, but as it turns out, if I want to get one of the pre-order bonuses today is the last day to do so before the release.

The one for Amazon US is the "Butcher Street Pack" which gives you a sword fencing bonus, better "molotov" AOE and reduced damage from blasts. I haven't really looked at the other packs since the no tax/free shipping options from amazon usually edge out the competition in terms of price at least. It looks interesting, but ultimately it seems like it's an "early to mid-level" advantage at best.

I'm saving up for the Assassin's Creed 3 game for sure, and am eyeballing the AC3 Liberation/Vita Pack which is going to set me back for sure I also have to play catch-up AC2 Revelations and with Resident Evil series. I may get the Anthology since I somehow managed to skip RE 5 in it's entirety. As for the Skyrim DLC ports for the PS3, don't even get me started. It's disappointing and frustrating to say the least, but I sincerely hope Bethesda will get that mess sorted soon.

Anyone else planning to Pre-Order Dishonored? Any opinions on which pre-order pack seems most appealing?

I preordered at gamestop, I wasn't sure everything you get until now so thanks for posting all the stuff! I personally like the gamestop dlc though.

Gamestop ran out of Tarot Cards.

I have Dishonored SD 10/9 on my receipt. Anyone know if I'll still get the cards, because I keep hearing about how people have "tarot cards" or "no tarot cards" on their receipt.

I would say "no". This is coming from someone that pre-ordered every single version of Dragon Age 2 out there because I wanted
every single pre-order bonus out there. All of that stuff ended up replaced fairly quickly, and some of it I found to be fairly useless
(I kind of knew that this would be the case, but it all looked and sounded neat and I wanted it).

Please also keep in mind that all this stuff may come out as DLC later..... Pretty much all the DX:HR pre-order specials came out
fairly soon after as DLC.

In the end, though, it all comes down to whether YOU find it worth it. If you do, then it is.

Gamestop usually winds up with the best pre-order bonuses. They had that AC2 Brotherhood Exclusive Harlequin "Jack in the Box", while most other places had the doctor one.

The Tarot cards for Dishonored looks pretty cool. I kind of wish Amazon had them though because they do a good job of keeping AAA release stock. Gamestop, on the other hand, has a nasty way of coming up short with the "premium" releases if you don't preorder well in advance, something similar happened with the collector's edition of Gran Turismo.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I bought from two different retailers to get different bonuses for Fallout New Vegas, gamestop and walmart to get the Courier and the Caravan packs. My ulterior motive was to have 2 discs so that I could play between two different systems without having to bring the disc back and fourth, but the bonuses were a plus. Ultimately however, in the "big picture" sort of way they became more "novelty" than anything else.

Did the same with Gran Turismo 5 (to get the two discs), though the "stealth edition" cars in this case were a huge advantage in comparison.

In the case of Skyrim, the only preorder bonus was the textured map. Sure I could have gotten the "collector's" dragon, but the price was pretty high at the time even for a Collector's edition!

Pre-order bonuses and I have a love hate relationship. I don't like the practice exactly, "Preorder and get FREE STUFF!" At the same time some of that stuff looks pretty damn cool. Like the AC jack in the box, already mentioned by Derragorn. I've been burned on those before too, like when I ordered the super special edition of Batman Arkham Asylum and it came with a Batarang. A very sad, plastic, beat up looking batarang, but I still hang it proudly on my wall for some unknown reason. The Arkham Asylum leather book binding was good though.

In the end though, it's kind of up to an individual opinion. The Tarot Cards for Dishonored didn't really matter to me, I just wanted the game as soon as possible. I digress though, to each their own.

Also, is it just me or have these pre-order bonuses become more extravagant than they used to be? ie. Like COD's ultimate package that comes with it's own hover drone that you can pilot.

Simple question ,

Are the preorder bounces exclusive to their retailers ?

If yes , you may wanna check this

Every time I've had some DLC Pre-Order at GameStop it's always been printed on the receipt, the DLC code that is.

TBH, I'm not sure if those pictures are legitimate or not. Anyone can put a sticker on a game. That said, we'll see once the game is out how it's going to work. Some stores may do it differently too. We'll just have to wait and see really.

Never really seen a PS3 game with PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3PS3 printed like that.... Probably bootlegs

The only game I have from the UK is Record of Agarest War LE for PS3 and I still have yet to remove it from the packaging.

I wanna know if you can turn these features off in the options menu and what can you buy (without spoilers) with 500 coins? a upgrade?

Yes, 500 coins can do quite a lot actually and I'm going to do a review of what a no DLC Playthrough is like in comparison to one with every DLC so it'll be known how much it can do.

One DLC though will give you another bone charm slot at the off-set, an upgrade, three bone charms that aren't in the game and a lore book not in the game. That's a good leg up on its own. All four---that could be a wrecking ball.

Sometimes I'll buy a game without pre-ordering and it comes with the bonuses anyways...
