Skyrim Bloating Savegames - Finally Solved for PC players

Post » Tue Oct 09, 2012 2:43 pm

Hey lads i want to let the hand to anyone who suffer from bloating (increased in size) savegames in Skyrim.
Recently i found a mod on Nexus, called Skyrim Respawn Timescale (just type into searcher there), it is
fully customizable and offers us to clear cells more often than vanilla Skyrim (30days).
These long vanilla cell clearing, makes my savegame bloats (especially with mods that allow You construction of your own villages, homes or just adding a npcs to the game). This mod is simple and clear out Skyrim of dead bodies (Npc's , animals etc.) for example every 10-7 days and so on. Try it.
It helps me a lot and i just want to share that info with all of You.

I've been thinking about this a lot today (360 btw) because my current playthru is crashing every hour.

What they shoud do is have quests reset as well as dungeons. If say Amren's sword is in Valtheim keep for 30 days, then it should disappear from the loot chest and Amren's dialogue resets to how it was at the beginning of the game.

If they did this with all quests, then you wouldn't have a gameworld full of dungeons with loot you need to go fetch, and locations with people you need to talk to. I have cut a 13MB file size down to 9MB just by completing miscellaneous quests before.

You can try waiting 30x24 hours, that should clear up all dead bodies and stuff.

Do you know how boring that is to do? I did it once to test if chests were safe in my mod and I don't want to do it again (was that the 25th or 26th day?).

Harem GrimEye thanks for the tip.

I have a mod installed which does the cell cleaning pretty much as soon as you leave the cell...I'll take a look and post it here.

It does, but it only clears a small fraction of the save bloat. It's the build up of unfinished quests, with specific items and NPCs in specific locations, which don't reset after 30 days that greatly increase bloat.

I often do 30 day waits, and I always check my save file before and after. Waiting alone more often than than not, doesn't even take 1MB off the save file.
