New idea for PvP and cross-faction area exploration

Post » Wed Oct 10, 2012 1:02 am

By now we've all heard the (bad) news that any given character will not be able to explore the entire world of Tamriel. Instead, characters will be restricted to the territory of their own faction while everyone will have access to Cyrodil.

So here is my idea.

What if they allowed exploration of enemy territories but made all NPCs hostile and allowed any PCs in that world to attack you at will.

This would be in keeping with the Elder Scrolls focus on exploration and would allow for a limited form of FFA PvP.

Obviously it would be extremely hard to survive in a world where everyone was hostile. But that's the fun of it. Stealth characters would be especially good at this because they could sneak around the enemy world. This wouldn't be a major part of the game but it would a be fun little add on that would add to the experience of the game.

What do you guys think?

In effect that is what they are going to basically do, the reason you won't be in the other factions areas is because you have to get past there super guards blocking the entrace. They don't like you and will kill you if you get near and its the only way in. So in effect you are prevented entry at the pain of death. Daoc's guards were very efficient usually about 2 hit kills on a max level tank and 1 hit kill on mages and they litterally lined the entrace with about 50 of em, they could see through all forms of stealth. A couple times servers did make a push at one think longest one I know of they did make it to the inner court yard of the keep for a bit but that was over 500 people charging it all at one time.

As Nighthawkeye suggested that is more than likely what ZOS is actually doing. When they say faction borders are closed that doesn't necessarily mean there is an invisible wall. What it likely means, if ESO follows suit of DAoC, that there are high level hostile mobs protecting the border that will essentially one shot the player. I already explained how ZOS is purposely keeping PvP in Cyrodiil as they want to promote faction identity and massive RvR. Any form of FFA PvP or PvP taking place outside of Cyrodiil only undermines what is one of the major points of the game.
