good name for a bretonnord

Post » Thu Oct 11, 2012 10:28 am

going to use a breton and his background would be that his father was a nord and his mother was a breton, so since i like giving a first and last name is first should be breton and his last should be nordic. also i figure he going to be a soilder and hardly use magic.

If he's a Breton from High Rock his first name should sound a bit French (though some Bretons seem to have names that sound English, like Sam or Delvin Mallory). If he's from the Reach, try Gaelic. http://www.behindthename.com/ is a good place to get inspiration.

As for the last name, try combining two things that sound warriorlike or nordic - shield, sword, bone, axe, winter, snow, ice, stone, brave, strong, blood...

I can now see Montier Strongbrave running around.

In fact... I might make that, now.

Not that you can't make any hair color, but I'm confused why Red hair is breton? It's been written that they're usually a dark haired people. Apologies if I misread.

Just keep in mind the french-old english names of the Bretons when you make a character.

As for the last name, well, Nords don't really have last names. They either just have one unique
personal name, or a name and a family titel of sorts, such as Roggi Knot-Beard or Torsten Cruel-Sea.
Other than that, I'm sure you're aware of the Nordic roots of the Nord race, and that they have
names that corresponds to old Nordic names.

Sometimes the Nords are named just by the actions or personality. "Anneke Crag-Jumper". "Mjoll the Lioness".

Nah. Breton is not French anymore than Irish is English. Bretons are celts of one sort or another I would think. For names, draw on Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish, or Real World Bretons.

Yeah, Celts sounds more accurate. Kind of covers the various French like names and the Gaelic like Reachmen names.

As I understand it, High Rock descendants still have French-sounding names like in previous games. Like Anton Virane, the cook in Understone Keep, who's born in Daggerfall.

Some other Skyrim Bretons with French-sounding names (presumably of High Rock origin):
Vivienne
Colette
Angeline
Delphine
Julienne
Sybille
Laelette
Alain
Arniel
Etienne
Delacourt
Maurice
Louis
Octieve
