Is the new XCOM only good for PC?

Post » Sat Oct 13, 2012 4:26 am

I am not too confident that my laptop could run the new XCOM game, but strategy games tend to be so much better on the PC. Anyone here tried the Xbox version and can vouch for it?

Well, I don't think it'd run it that great and that wasn't my question. I just want to know if it is any good on consoles because strategy games, such as Age of Empires and Starcraft (yes, I know those are real-time and XCOM isn't, but some of the same principles apply) generally aren't and even most of the video footage in reviews are from the PC version. Here is my laptop's specification:
  • AMD Athlon II X2 processor P320 clocked at 2.1 Ghz
  • 15.6" HD LCD display with a resolution of 1366x768
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 with 256 MB dedicated VRAM
  • 4 GB DDR3 Memory/RAM
  • 500 GB HDD with around 400 GB free space
  • Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium

Could my laptop run it and how well? I mean, despite any article, I still feel as though an XCOM game belongs on the PC. Besides, it is around £10 pounds cheaper and I believe you get Civilization V free with it on Steam too.

Haven't we already determined your graphics card isn't cut out for modern gaming? Do you have to ask again for every game?

I asked once about a MySims game. I know it isn't good for modern gaming, as it certainly doesn't take a genius to tell that. I simply was wondering whether or not the Xbox 360 version is even playable, since I know about strategy games on the console not being good.

Although, isn't the 4000 series newer and better than the 3000 series out of curiosity?

Try the demo and find out. It's the only way to be sure.

The first number represents the card's generation. The second number and third numbers are the ones that determine its power. Even though it's two generations newer, it's one of the weakest cards of the generation and the 2600 is still better.

Suppose so. Doubt it will run well though. Will likely pick it up for Xbox now I know it is actually playable.
