So, my favorite weapons aesthetically in the game are the iron sword, iron war axe and iron dagger. But, I can't seem to make them useful(except the dagger for sneak attacks if you have one handed sneak damage maxed). So, I'm wondering if there are any smithing or enchanting tricks to make them more powerful? I can't figure out how to upgrade them past fine, but I've put little time into smithing.

Leveling up your Smithing skill will eventually let you upgrade them more. Fortify Smithing enchantments and potions will also help.

Exactly what he said, you can upgrade them and enchant them to make the more powerful, if you enchant armor with fortify alchemy enchantment, then create potions of fortify enchantment sskill with the new armor on, and repeat this process you can eventually make uber weapons that will own anything.
