Lore Discussion: a few questions

Post » Sat Oct 13, 2012 2:07 pm

Can anyone explain this concept of CHIM to me in layman's terms as well as the 5th Era stuff because honestly I'm lost. I've checked out the imperial library and in my opinion if Michael Kirkbridge isn't on drugs he damn well should be because that man simply makes no sense.
Help Lore buffs!

You should probably have a moderator move this to the lore forums, they know a lot more about TES lore in that section than they do here.

Probably the most basic explanation I can offer (which may or may not be accurate to the letter) for CHIM is this:

CHIM is complete enlightenment; the world becomes much like a lucid dream to you and as such, you are able to change what you see in whatever way you will.

Some have speculated that it is when a character withinn the TES universe realizes he is in a fictional world and therefore is able to change it at will.

CHIM means learning that -1 + 1 = 0 without being exterminated by the knowledge. ;)
The lore buffs will elaborate further. :D

Shouldn't that be division by zero without destroying the universe in the process? ;)

I thought CHIM equals Zero Summing without unmaking yourself...
Could be wrong here. I haven't thought much about Chim the last months and that stuff tends to blow my mind anyways.

Well division by zero in programming (when dealing with float numbers with no measures in process) = bad things happen. Like the equivalent of unmaking yourself.

Ah, I didn't know that's another allusion MK worked into his stuff.
I just knew that the Dwemer could divide by zero... and that they had different types of zero.
But I guess they used higher-dimensional mathematics.

Or to put that into double layman's terms, TES is The Matrix.

Those are some very good sites on the subject.
Basically CHIM is realising that you're just the figment of Godhead's imagination, that -1 + 1 = 0, and then being able to proclaim that, despite all of that, you're still you, and that the Godhead is as much you as you are the Godhead. It's achieving enightenment. Is unlocking the secret of the Tower, it's lucid dreaming while you're wide awake. It's ... Complicated ;)
