Problems installing free HD Texture DLC

Post » Sun Oct 14, 2012 12:45 pm

The problem started when I tried to download it. I accidentally clicked the button twice and got two files listed on the Data Files screen. They were listed as something like HDtexturepack01 and 02.

Eventually I began using only one and then discovered I didn't have enough RAM to run the DLC.

I increased my RAM to 4GB and went back to running only one file. It worked for the most part but I noticed some textures would be missing. In one instance the handle of the lockpick was missing but came back. Then I noticed some more.

I tried to delete the files, there were four of them two .esp files and two .bsa(?) files for each HDtexturepack, and reinstall but apparently you can't delete anything from Steam. I'll leave the hate filled rant of Steam for another time and place.

According to Steam I already have the DLC eventhough I "deleted" it from the Skyrim data folder.

When I try to verify the integrity of the cache files through Steam the four old HDtexture files are reinstalled.

My questions are:

1. Should there be two files for the HDtexturepack? If not, how do I install the correct "one" I need?

2. If there are supposed to be two files were the missing textures just glitches?

3. An opinion on what quality I should play the game on (i.e. High or Ultra)? My setup is:

Windows 7 32-bit
Phenom II X4 965
GTX 550 Ti 1GB
4GB RAM

Technically, there are 4 files for it. 2 ESPs and 2 BSAs. Each ESP is associated with a BSA. Each one includes different stuff. I think one is for items or something and the other for surroundings such as buildings and the like. Not sure on that, though.

Yes, there are missing textures and stuff. At one point, Beth said they were looking into it and possibly going to fix it but it never happened for some reason. Redownloading isn't an issue since Steam supports deltas.

With your setup, you'll have issues running the game with the texture pack.

1. Yes, there are two .esp files.

2. Probably glitches, although the DLC has some minor bugs that are fixed by http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8236 Try verifying file integrity again, then install the fix.

3. No idea, sorry :)

Thanks a lot for the reply.

 I've been a member for seven years while you've been one for less than a year and have 4x's the posts I do...lol

What is the bottleneck in my system? As you can see I haven't learned much in all this time...lol

I did notice some new lag/stuttering but it wasn't severe. I assume it would be worse with both files loaded?

In your opinion what setting should I use if I do not use the HDpack?

That's just due to me being very active due to living on the computer. >_>

Two things:

1) You're on a 32-bit system, so your system can only use 4 GB of RAM at max. The real world use will be less due to how Windows is designed and the game will have less available due to other stuff running.
2) The texture pack is pretty intensive and your GPU, when combined with the 32-bit OS, is not really up to par

No telling to be honest.

Without the texture pack, you'd be fine on at least high.

For reference, if you do go ahead and do without it, you can contact Steam support and ask them to remove the texture pack from your account so you don't need to worry about it in the future. Due to the nature of it, they generally go right ahead.

OK, thanks again!
