Need help with a "RANGER" class.

Post » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:05 pm

Hai guys am loving the game. Finally managed to get completely immersed in the game.

I've played a short while just to get a feel of the game. I was quite overwhelmed and put my points all over the place not knowing that I couldn't reset them later on. Any who I've gone ahead and created a new save with a particular playstyle in mind.

I was looking to play a Ranger something similar to Legolass in Lord of the Rings. However, I was also looking to build my dual wield skills. I ain't planning on going down the assassin/thief route.

I was wondering in which trees would be my skill points be better put to use and what professions should I take up. And which factions should I be focusing on? I was considering the companions and dark brotherhood.

archery (duh  ) and light armour are the two biggest skills that come to mind, smithing could be used to make your bow stronger if it fits into your idea, sneak might also be nice. professions? i would hunt bigger game (maybe the most dangerous game), idk abotu guilds though, maybe he doesn't belong into any of them? maybe he fits in for a RP reason?

Haha I tried to make my first character look like Viggo.

Go with th Companions & Dawnguard. Also, the perks on the right side of the Block tree work when bashing with bows

Thanks for the info  Well I wasn't sure if smithing was worth it. Is it really hard to level smithing? And I what other trees should I focus on?

Also when you say "light armor". What falls under that category?

For a ranger ALA Aragorn, you would need to focus on these skill trees: One handed (swords), light armour, sneak and archery. Some bash perks from block too probably wouldn't go astray.

-Smithing is extremely easy to level up. Usually the first skill I get to 100.
-Light armor would be Fur, Hide, Glass, Elven, Scale, and Dragon Scale armor.
-Factions I would go with for that character would be the Dawnguard (if you have it) and maybe the Companions...
-Sneak helps a bunch but its easy to get overpowered. Light armor is a prime choice for Rangers as it keeps you light on your feet and makes little noise.

And regarding smithing. How do you go about levelling it?

Depending on what you want to make you gather leather, leather strips and various metal ingots.
Your exp gain is at its best with expensive items like jewelry. In early levels you can hit lvl 20 within a few minutes so long as you have a good stock of leather and iron ingots.

Iron Dagger (the easiest and quickest way to level exp in the beginning):
1. Start off by getting a bunch of pelts from various animals
2. Go to a tanning rack and turn all of them into leather
3. Use some of that leather for turning into leather strips
4. Go to the forge and spam the iron dagger.

Best place to mine for iron is Halted Stream Camp or go to Fort Fellhammer.

Alrighty. Thanks.

What about Enchanting? Is it required?

Not required but that can help as well. Its especially effective with high enchanting.
My bow The Black Huntsman's Bow (personally named) has Fiery Soul trap which does fire damage/soul trap and Paralyze. It stops my opponent and burns them at the same time.

Again enchanting is useful but not necessary.
