Two-handed weapons and magic?

I've got a bad case of Battlemage...

I've been toying with the idea of making a Nord Battlemage based around traditional nord arms and weaponry, with a battle axe as my primary weapon besides destruction.

I'm not sure how the whole two-handed thing is gonna work out though. Has anyone tried this? I don't have a lot of experience in the two handed department as most of my characters have been using one handed weapons or just magic. I'm not too keen on investing alot in stamina either, will this be too much of a problem? Basically the idea is to fight with fireballs and summons until I run out of mana when I will pull out the axe and fight like there's no tomorrow.

Does anyone know what the Nords think of summoning daedra btw? Is it percieved as just another form of milk-drinker magic or is it worse? Necromancy seems to be a no-no outside of the college.

With the favorites system it is quite easy to change between two-handed and magic, I have never had any problems with it myself.
You can get by with only 100 stamina in the game, if you are willing to sacrifice some mobility and powerattacks, but I didn't find this too hard to cope with myself. I have had a few characters with only the base amount of stamina and they did fine.

The Nords, overall, doesn't seem to like summoning of Daedra or Undead.

If you make lots of vegetable soup you don't need any stamina; you can power attack continuously. This is the best way to handle it.
I like the idea of summoning a Dremora Lord (or two) and fighting alongside them with your own Greatsword. Good action although maybe a little light on casting.

If you use the Bound Battleaxe you can cast spells before summoning your weapon easily enough, raising both Two Handed and Conjuration at the same time, many Nords dislike magic altogether but as Tsun says, their ancestors used magic extensively. You could be a Nord Battlemage in Ancient Nord Armour with Conjuration, Bound Battleaxe, plenty of summons and necromancy and other schools of magic just fine. In a way it could be seen as the ultimate traditional Nord.

There is no real difference between using two-handed weapons + magic and one-handed weapons & shield + magic. Except of course that you don't have a shield to hotkey, so I suppose it is slightly easier. I suggest you use spells that will complement being a melee fighter. A ranged destruction attack for dealing with those pesky archers and dragons that do not want to land is good for starters. Rune spells are wonderful for setting up a little surprise for enemies that like to charge you. Oakflesh and the others in its vein are good for any fighter, especially if you wear light armor and could use a little extra protection. Calm spells are nice if you have a character who does not want to kill every wild animal they meet in the wilderness.

And if you want to summon something other than daedra or undead, try the Nature Summoning mod in my sig. It lets you summon wolves, bears, sabre cats, etc... That seems pretty Nordic.

Seems more wood elf to me, but maybe it works for Nords too.

The only advantage one-hand/magic has over two-hand/magic is that you don't have to switch mid-battle, which is nice. But if you're willing to deal with the minor delay involved, it should work OK. My Imperial, Tiberius is a Two-hander, but he's also a Destruction mage.
