Civil War and Dragons. It's just not right.

I'm doing the Civil War for the first time, as a Stormcloak.

Why can't we just deliver Ulfric's Axe and be done with it? We shouldn't have to have dragons come into play. I purposely avoided spawning them with four of my other characters.

I'm going to imagine there's a good reason for it as I play through the civil war questline. At least, I hope there will be.

Anyone else unhappy with this? Or am I just being too picky?

Well, it is kinda stupid that Balgruuf insists on you dealing with the dragon problem - when in fact, if you don't deal with it, there IS no dragon problem...

A good number of people were unhappy about being forced to play Dragonborn with that questline.

I like the narrative flow it introduces. And I like that it tries to make Baalgruuf sympathetic, no matter what you choose. Instead of just going full on completing the Civil War (it's a little too black and white that way).

Come to think of it, there are many ways to interpret it too. It opens up more roleplaying ideas. Maybe Baalgruuf was actually bad and thought it was an easy way to get rid of you. He didn't want to expend more resources to Farengar's project, and thought you were no great loss. But if you succeeded, it could be a win win situation for him. Or maybe he really is a neutral, decent guy, and this was a last ditch effort to stave off war, befriending you, making you Thane, hoping that you'd see the "light" or simply leave him alone.

Either way, it's better than just trudging through one questline, killing an opposing side without any up close talks with them. Which is what a Civil War quest in and of itself would do.
