Thoughts on a personal challenge

Post » Thu Oct 18, 2012 9:31 am

So I, like so many others, have dumped countless hours into Skyrim; but I have been living a personal challenge this entire time: To never apply perks, to never awaken the dragons, and play on master difficulty (I'll let you guess how many deaths I've experienced)

Why do I do this?
- I don't like the perk system
- I don't like being given a title from near the beginning of a game where I can be whoever I want

As much as I would like to test my mettle against a dragon, though I know the obvious result, I cannot stand the thought of suddenly everyone saying "You...you're Dragonborn!" I do not feel it is deserved.

Here is my character build currently:

Race: Redguard
Level: 79
Star Sign currently: The Lady
Archtype: Warrior
Primary weapon(s): Dual longswords
Secondary weapon: Bow
Magic: Some Restoration
M/H/S Distribution: 0%/40%/60%

Obviously my magic and stealth skills are high in order to be level 79. I had them trained, treating them as if I were knowledable about such things, but don't use them in any serious, practical way.

So I guess why I'm here is because I'm curious if anyone else has tried something like this.

I see your point. Awaking the dragons is always such a let down. Ironic to say the least. As long as forum censorship is on high here, bethesda may never learn. Sad & once again ironic. Bethesda has a forum to learn & grow with their fans buts censors it so as to never truly understand what we like.

I like to give myself personal challenges also and one of my characters also doesn't take perks.

I completely agree, there is a lot to listen to on here that really could be taken into consideration for future content.

This is definitely an intriguing idea. No perks and on Master? That is one hell of a challenge! I don't see how and character besides a warrior could be viable like this. Mages need magic regen and spell cost reduction. Assassins need the backstab damage to effectively stealth kill things. Interesting indeed.

Correct, no perks (I don't like them, I prefer attributes) and master difficulty, mainly because it forces me to think about how to approach situations instead of barbarically leaping into my obvious death with a heart full of zeal.

I have my own challenges, but I don't go that far. Still, several of my characters have not or will not initiated the main quest. I've played through it three times, so it's a wee bit tiresome. Maybe I'll do it again at another time.

I'm actually curious now as to how this new rumored "dragon mounts" in the upcoming dlc will affect my game. I hope Bethesda will account for some of us in dragon-free mode, because that would irritate me to come in there and dragons appear for the supposed "Dragonborn", who is me but not me.
