Too Short?

I've seen a lot of complaints about this, but I don't get it? I'm on the 5th mission
Spoiler
Lady Boyle's party
and i'm almost at 14 hours. Now granted I don't know how many missions there are and how far I am, but that's not a bad game time.

Me neither, heh.

I'm on the 1st mission you get post prison. There are 9. I am at the end of that 1st mission, and I'm at 12 or so hours. Maybe 11. I explore everything, optimize all my routes, loot everything I can, etc, and.. landed at 11-12 hours. That likely means it'll take me about 80 hours to beat the game, IF that. Maybe 90+. So I have no idea where the complainers that are saying '14 hours to beat game is too short' just what kinda pace do you need to go at? And then there was a vid of someone doing a speedrun at 4 hours? Just seems like an odd idea, but maybe thats what started the naysayers.

As I said many times before, try this game the hardcoe way, such as you never load a previous save cus you failed or died.
Start all over again, and do this - the first time you play the game, I swear, no HUD and all. It's bloody thrillin! And I'm still having fun! Not completed the game as you can see on Steam (achievements).

You really ahve to take your time and explore to get more than 20 hours out of a playthrough. My first was 9 but this time around I'm moving slowly and trying to find everything.

I actually prefer the game being "only" 20 hours long, it keeps it tight & more focused. There are games I've liked that have lasted hundreds of hours; but on reflection most of them involving aimless wandering in them rather than actually playing them.

One of my playthroughs took a bit over 50 hours. Mostly because I scoured every nook and cranny looking for any survivors, then promptly killing them in a stealthy manner.

I'm on last mission, about 38 hours in. Any game can be finished very quickly if you rush and/or know what you're doing.

Fallout 1 can actually be finished in less than 10 minutes, without using ANY exploits. For example.

I have to think that you guys getting more time out of Dishonored HAS to do with dying a lot, or replaying mission constantly. My first play through I recovered about 75% of the runes, maybe 66% of the bones, so obviously I did not "rush". I just didn't die, at all, and I had NO problem actually making a path decision after a brief pause to get the lay of the land. Since most of these ways are predictable, they're not hard to find at all, especially since there are multiple paths and ways to use them and still accomplish the playthrough with your goals in mind. I am NOT a completionist and the ONLY way I could have gotten more than 20 hours out of Dishonored would have been as a completionist. I died maybe once or twice on my first play through and didn't replay any missions I'd completed. I got about 10 hours, first play through, stealth, high chaos. My second play through was super low chaos, with mostly "no kills" except for Campbell (1 kill) and Boyle (1 kill), total stealth. Knowing all of the areas, though, it took only 8 hours despite actually recovering more bones, more runes, and additional sub-areas. 18 hours for 2 complete play throughs. That's the shortest SP I've ever played with the possible exception of Brink.

heh, I rushed my first playthrough, and it ended on 19h. This time I'm taking my time for a second playthrough. Not sure why everyone is complaining that it is so short though.

19 hours! On a single play through? How many times do you die/restart/reload per mission?

Yeah, again, how many times do you die/restart/reload per mission? They only way I can see it taking that long is through repeated deaths, reloads, restarts, or if you're a thorough completionist who needs EVERY 5 piece.

I've died. A lot.

That could explain it. I only died maybe once or twice my entire first play through (normal). I don't recall dying at all on my second (hard), stealth, low chaos play through.

I reloaded and died the most on my first playthrough (18 hours), after that I played on very hard and died less. My second playthrough (26 hours) was to get the clean hands achievement so I reloaded quite a bit. For my third (around 20 hours) and fourth playthrough (Over 50 hours) I didn't die or reload at all. I just went with it if I messed up.

The only times I've died had been to River Krust. I hate those things so much...but they are *so*
satisfying to grenade :D

I played through twice, once killing no one, once killing literally everyone. I liked the high chaos ending better, but I thought the story overall was actually lacking. Furthermore, I was promised freedom to explore anywhere I could see. DISAPPOINTED

just gotta wait for them to open their mouths then shoot them with a crossbow or gun and they instantly die. I do really hate those things though, and there so loud too

Yeah I expected this game will be hard to swallow for people who just wanted to do the main objectives and expect the game to instantly and completely entertain them with as little effort as possible. I'm not a completionist and I managed to get 40 hours out of two playthroughs. A lot of that time was just exploring for the fun of it. Listening to all the conversations, reading texts and using the heart to learn everything. Finding all the encounters and pathways. Playing for low and high chaos. Exploring all the powers and ways to combine them. The game has a lot on offer if you want it. I'd rather spend 6 hours in this game then 60 hours in any game like Assassin's Creed where the playtime it is padded out with repetitive filler content.

To me, it's the beauty of a game like Dishonored;

It can definitely be completed in about 6hrs if you just bumrush the target, don't worry about collecting runes/charms/blueprints or reading books/listening to the heart. At the end of it though, if you think the game isn't compelling with a deep story you only have yourself to blame.

I'm taking my time and exploring everywhere and I already know that I've missed a bunch of stuff so I'm really looking forward to going back and experiencing it all again and maybe a little differently.

I've just finished the Golden Cat (I think that's the 3rd mission) and I've played 10 hours. No deaths, collected all runes/charms/paintings, exploring a lot but not everything. Killed 2 people on the Golden Cat mission (they were harassing some civilian), got Ghost on mission 2 and 3, killed no one on mission 1 and 2. Low chaos.

Really I don't understand how people can finish this in 10 hours unless they just blitz the objective and assassinate everyone in their way. Too boring for me, this is a stealth game. Patience and observation are key.
