When is the save file size a problem?

I've heard that when the save file raises in size, so does the amount of problems. I've just passed 5.5 megs and haven't yet felt anything out of the ordinary. I fear for when it nears 10 megs though..

You should be ok for now. Mine ran pretty flawlessly till I hit 10mb and now it is at 11 and pretty much unplayable. There are some things you can do to help keep from bloating like not leaving items or weapons laying around after a fight. Store them on dead enemies etc.. and some say to not take on everything at once and to finish quests before starting new ones when you can help it. And don't forget to save, save, save. Update 1.7 gave me a corrupt save file about every 3-4 saves. And back them up on a flash drive as well.

Good luck.

Seen a lot of gamers come here to this subforum with a no problem experience initially then return later with sad faces. I noticed in the original release lag issues starting around 8-9 mb file sizes. By 12 mb you couldn't miss them, and by 16mb game sessions could not last longer than 1-2 hours before you had to reboot, or get extremely nauseous. Biggest save file I reached was 21mb, but that was my first playthrough, and I was being a masochist to some extent. I also wasn't doing much in the quest department just exploring the game world. Your playstyle can and will make a difference. But ultimately the visual qualities will degrade, no matter what approach you take.

11 mb is critical point. When you get over 13 mb it gets catastrophical. But you may notice stuttering already when you hit 9mb. Then it slowly but surely starts.

4.7mb was the first bad lag issue for me, but I was one of the rare ones

Really noticed it in the 11-12MB file size range. I think my first (and only) complete playthrough hit 17MB towards the end, and playing that was like watching a slideshow.

Edit: Because this website occasionally finds it humorous to adjust my font size down to .0000175, and I'm not that mean to you.

After 1.5 mine picked up in frame rate, and when it hit 8mb, started slowdown again...then the 1.7 virus hit..........

Although I had freezes on day 1, they tapered off until recently. I've had 4 in about 2 hours and more lag than usual. I'm at around 8.5 MB.
