Playing as a pure Mage - Powerful, yet lacking

Post » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:42 am

I am finally getting around to playing a pure mage build. I am focusing on Destruction, Illusion and Conjuration. My character is around level 13. I am finding that the build is extremely strong - but also very boring. He can easily mop the floor with Bandit Chiefs. A Dual Cast Fear works on everyone and I just picked up Impact. Seems like every battle is the same spells. Fear + Chasing them around casting Flames or Alternating Dual Cast Lightning Bolt with double Lighting Bolts. Or just casting Flames + Frostbite at the same time against melee toons. I seem to never get hit.

So my question is - does it get more interesting as a pure mage. Or is just variations of stronger Fear + Impact spells?

Change the difficulty setting maybe? I have a level 25 mage and I'm levelling pretty much every aspect of magic. I don't conjure assistance for every fight, so maybe I've got a different playstyle, but it's challenging for me :)

I guess what I am trying to say is that combat seems very repitious. I use three to four spells for pretty much every encounter. It does not seem to require any timing, just fear and burn.

It is repetitious. I don't use Illusion but it's the same for me; conjure pet, blast away.
On the other hand, how many different moves does a sneaky archer have? That's why I alternate between a couple of characters; I always get bored with one after a few days.

Combat in every video game I have ever played gets repetitious after awhile. Generally, when I feel a video game is beginning to feel repetitious I take that as a sign that I need to put the game away and go outside the house and do something else for a day or two.

That's the style of these games. It's not like there is an overabundance of "moves" for characters, not even the melee ones. Can't even jump attack.

If you want to have no so repitious fights, play Fallout or something like Dark Souls.
