1.8 Beta Update; Solsheim DLC - Thread #17

Post » Fri Oct 19, 2012 8:48 pm

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are Raven Rock, Miraak Temple, Castle Karstaag and a Telvanni Tower.
There will be some new armor types, Bomemold, Chitin, Nordic and Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures, Riekling, Scrib, Netch, Boar, Benthic Lurker and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora. You will also be able to ride dragons.

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

http://i.imgur.com/gF1hJ.png is what the quest header for Dragonborn Quests will look like, and http://i.imgur.com/AJu91.png is what the new compass markers look like for the new locations.
From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

All of the above is speculation over new strings found in the files from the 1.8 update, and should not be treated as facts or as any proof that any of it will even make it into the game! (but you all already knew that, didn't you!... Didn't you?) They were found by comparing 1.7.7.0 files with those in 1.8.145.0.

You want proof, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE PROOF!!!! (I'll add proof later, in the mean time, look at these posts: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&andor_type=and&sid=6414f2621d561aebc06a2a90e0e8e062&search_author=Mardoxx&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D=date&search_content=both&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5Bforums%5D%5B%5D=118&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BnoPreview%5D=0&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BpCount%5D=&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BpViews%5D=&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D=date&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortDir%5D=0&search_term=&search_app=forums&st=50)

I wonder what the time out for editing is?... More to come..

"Next DLC will be called Dragonborn. It is set in Solstheim. Main locations are Raven Rock, Miraak Temple, Castle Karstaag and Telvanni Tower. You will might be able to ride dragons. Also, new armor types, possibly horse (?) Bomemold, Chitin, Nordic and Stalhrim.

There are references to new creatures too, Riekling, Scrib (lol), Netch.. etc

PS3 DLC will come soon and so will mounted spell casting.

-Would a spear be used as a bo staff partly?
-I would also very much like to throw it and impale people against the wall behind them, oh dear i sound terrible.
-Crouching and doing a power attack could sweep enimies off their feet

I noticed people talking about spears in this DLC. Is it just speculation or was something discovered in the update?

Don't hold your breath for an announcement anytime soon. It'll likely be a couple of weeks.

I don't think they'll cut out this stuff when the majority of players wants it.

I'll post a better OP in a minute... a cup tea awaits me.

Teas and infusions ! That's well something missing from Skyrim !

(Edit : don't forget to be careful and use conditional everywhere : Nothing has been officially announced yet, and some of these game files might be deleted before release of the next DLC.)

I'm going to put this as speculation until the details are actually confirmed. I just am not sure they would choose to revisit somewhere. I'm probably wrong. Oh and really not keen on that Dragon Mount idea, so hopefully that's not in the game. I'm still speculating that it is for something like a Dragon that takes you to said new area.

Yeah, logically you want to open up sales for a Christmas/Thanksgiving time period.

The later the better. The more time they take, the more stuff and lore they can put in, and the better written the stories and characters get.

I hope Solstheim will be part of the game world rather than in a separate exterior.

From another thread I said,

"Personally i'd love the ability to be infected traditionally by wild werewolves and have forced lunar transformations as well as the addition of werebears.

It's so annoying that I can go into any old vampire den and contract an alternate form of vampirism but the only way to become a werewolf is to join the companions. Sure, if you want full control over your transformations, go for it but I want the risk of infection from fighting them in the wild."

And from another thread,

"So werebears, yeah. Want it, coolio. But I just remembered. How about contracting the werewolf disease from wild werewolves and being forced into lunar transformations? If you want to control it sure, go speak to the companions and hey, give them new dialogue about it. But I want to contract an alternate form the same way we can with vampires.

Also craftable bear and wolf hats."

Also,

"I just had a notion and it's simple really.

New character customization options like hair and stuff. Loads of people are always making new characters and it would add a wee bit of replay value to the game for us."

If nothing else I am dead set on craftable animal hats and furs.

Eight types. Clues were found in the game files that each of these materials can be involved in the crafting of both light and heavy armors. :)

I think it's Herma-Mora. Of course, it may be Hermaeus Mora... But I also thought Alduin was Akatosh. Sometimes, in TES worlds, divinities worshipped under different names come to have distinct existences.
