1h dual disappointment

Had Skyrim 1.5 months now. Like it. But, have to say I am disappointed with the dual wield set up.

I suppose it was their idea of game balance, but I just can't conceive of using two one handed blades and not being able to block. Kinda seems to me that using a sword and dagger, for instance, should permit blocking being as that is how it was done irl, as in historically. But, oh well.

Tell, me, what button on a controller would a console player use to block while still controlling both weapons?

And losing control over each weapon would almost defeat the purpose.

It doubles damage at the cost of blocking...

The whole point of dual wielding is to have twice as much damage at the cost of not being able to defend. Plus, there are no buttons left on a controller to govern blocking while using both hands.
