So, where did you explore first?

I'm speaking geographically and not a specific dungeon/camp.

In my first play through, I mainly went between Whiterun, Riften, Winterhold, and Windhelm. I found myself exploring around those major holds. Mind you I ran all over Skyrim, but I really only dealt with quests and talked to people in those areas. I noticed that it changed every play through.

I'm just wondering what areas you all focused your time in. I've noticed even now on my 4th play through that I'm discovering areas and doing quests I have never done before even still.

I knew the road to Riverwood so well from the gameplay demos that I felt I had to go somewhere else first. So, I went to Riften. Quite the journey

I totally agree, I was situated in the main holds for my first play through. Nor did I really focus on side-quests, my main aim was to "Finish the game".. Little did I realize I was missing the best part of the game, exploring. My main character is now a Wood Elf, recently created him.. I have taken on the role-playing, which means, no fast travel (Carriage excepted), I have a back story, ambitions, fears.. Etc etc.

I have recently joined the Thieves Guild, in which it is sending me all over the place, I am now discovering the Dark Brotherhood. I find the side-quests are unfolding a lot of different places and aspects of the game.. :).

I think I went to the standing stones and headed towards Falkreath first. I ended up traveling all over the Rift for some reason. I wasn't using my map for a long time so until I started using road signs I got lost a bit at first. It was fun and still is when not using the map. I wish I could do a blind play through again though.

Hmm. First game? Hadn't watched any gameplay videos, so I did the normal Helgen-Riverwood-Barrow-Whiterun thing. After that, I think I wandered the countryside around Whiterun (sidequests leading me to Bandit camps & Silver Hand) and towards Riften (when the MQ sent me to the billion steps, which I then couldn't get up because of the nasty monsters. So I went back to sidequesting until I was tougher.)
