How much longer to the end of DLC? I want to start modding!

Post » Sat Oct 27, 2012 1:41 pm

So far my game has broke and I have had to start over ever time I install mods and there is a new patch. How much longer to the end of DLC and the final patch? I would love to mod this game but I hate starting over every time there is a new patch!

I'll answer your question with a question of my own... When is the next (single player) Elder Scrolls game scheduled to be released?

Well it sure svcks not knowing. I wouldn't want to rush it if Bethesda didn't break mods every time there is a patch. But its getting old, I lost a super warrior because of Dawnguard and now I have no want or desire to mod until they are done with the final patch.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas each had like what...5 DLC's? Skyrim has Dawnguard and a house mod. I'd say they're far from done.

So... let me get this straight.

I'm supposed to be angry at Beth for making addon content because it breaks your own SELF-MODIFIED game?

When you trick out your car... you do NOT get mad at the car manufacturer when they release parts that don't support your own tacked-on modifications.

Seriously - when you modify anything, you risk this. This is why I always laughed at my friends when we played World of Warcraft when they trick out their UI setups, only to have it break every content patch while I'm on my merry way totally unfrustrated and unhindered because I learned that what they gave me was more than enough. ^_^

I never said get angry, I just said I am done modding until there is a final patch. Because your game will break for sure every time there is a new patch and I am tired of starting over.

Yes. And Hearthfire.

So again, where are you getting this claim of certainty?

Where do you get your mods and which mods are you running? Because I get my mods from Steam and every time there is a new patch the game breaks.

I use Nexus as my main mod site and while DLC do tend to break some mods it is to be expected when modding. Bethesda cannot take into consideration how modders make their work, they have to do their thing and modders have to adjust. It's not perfect but there is no way Bethesda could create a DLC without testing it with every single mod out there. I usually when a new DLC arrives wait a few days with getting is at that gives modders time to catch up and release updates. :)

I have a few from steam and a few from nexus. I dont go very heavy on mods.

Sounds like you should probably rethink your mod list if it breaks your game each and every time.

The mods who get problems with new updates are overhaul mods who changes lots in the world. Had one who gave more unique and faction equipment smithing material perks. This caused an problem with tempering dragon weapons.

Mods who add new quests, dungeons, followers, armor or other gear will very rarely be affected.

If your mods are getting broken by patches then choose different mods. Mods can be written in several different ways and the modders who know what they're doing don't get affected by patches. Keep in mind that at least 50% of mods are basically experiments by people playing around with the CK. Their only goal is to get it to work, and no thought is given to finding the least invasive or most efficient way to do so.

Welcome to modding 101.

Patches and new content have always had the potential to break your mod. It isn't new, nor is it specific to the Elder Scrolls series. :goodjob:

Well, there's your problem :P

But seriously, when a new patch is about to be released, like right now, you have to put your Steam to offline mode and see what mods need updating after the patch releases. At minimum SKSE will need an update.

You don't need to start over each time an update is issued but you surely have to update your mods.

SKSE will always need an update as it basically hacks the game. Any mods who uses SKSE will not work until SKSE is updated.
Makes me scared about my farming mod, lots of plants who polls with SKSE functions, if disabled the plants will disappear and you have to plant again.

My favorite part is where he is on PC and yet claims to have lost something. You can always start the exact same setup and console command yourself back to where you were, or at least back to a point where you can continue again >.>
