I need smartphone help because Verizon made it very confusing. They gave me the impression "Unless you pay $200+ for data, minutes, and texting we won't activate your smartphone and it won't work at all" The following week a friend of mine got the iPhone WITHOUT a data plan an just connects it to wifi, since nowadays its every where. So is it possible to get a smartphone and still call and text from Verizon without their outrageous data plans. I actually almost never use the internet when I'm mobile so 4g LTE is worthless to me.

P.S. Does Verizon make you pay mandatory data fees even if you don't have a data plan? I know other phone companies do.
