Steam for Linux Beta

Valve will be selecting participants for the Steam Linux beta soon and they created this Official Group yesterday. (http:// steamcommunity.com / games/221410) You can join the beta (or at least try to join) by taking their Linux survey:

This is great news for Linux gamers, as you all probably know Valve has been porting Left 4 Dead 2 over to Linux and during a performance test they did recently the Linux build of the game (running on openGL) had more than 200% better performance than the Windows build

apparently I can't post links so you have to remove the spaces from the links above to use them

With Windows 8 being the great steaming pile that I keep reading about in article after article after article, i'm tempted to switch over and start using Linux. Wonder if Valve will break down and invent its own Operating System using the Linux code as a base.

developing an os is time consuming even if they use a linux distro such as ubuntu or mint or something similar as a base. I doubt Valve wants to spend their time developing a brand new os

it's more likely imo that they'll focus on hardware; consoles and things like that, maybe even a "Valve TV" or something
