Help with character development - Etienne the friendly nihil

I could need some help with developing my character's personality (and making quest decisions). Etienne Lautrec, a redguard, has no qualms about killing or stealing, but he's not an evil character. I think he's just a nihilist who doesn't believe in human laws or values. However, that doesn't make him evil. He doesn't enjoy slaughter, he just doesn't "care" if he has to kill in order to get stuff done. He probably wouldn't kill just for the sake of killing.

He has a wife (Sylgja) and two children (Francois Beaufort and Sofie). He enjoys the simple life, sleeping in the woods, eating good food, reading books etc. Sometimes he wanders off for some adventure, but a week later he returns home and enjoys family life.

I am not sure how to characterize him further. Would he participate in the dark brotherhood? Probably yes? But cannibalism and magic seem kinda off. Also, the civil war. It's hard to take sides. I feel he probably wouldn't care for one side or the other? You can't end the war without taking sides, can you?

Is there a nihilist concept in Skyrim?
