After playing Dishonored, it feels weird to move in Skyrim

Post » Mon Oct 29, 2012 7:41 pm

I can't put my finger on it but the combat in Dishonored had this amazing good feeling, even without the supernatural powers or enhancements.
Hm, right now - I wish that Dishonored was a open world role playing game like Skyrim, the graphics just appeal to me in Dishonored, it's really nice.

And the characters in Dishonored with it's graphics and such, just feel more alive when I'm talking to them.

I think magic, sword and stealth would work even better in a world like Skyrim if they had the engine and all of that from Dishonored.
:ermm: Hm, is it just me that feels this way?

there are so many improvements, smaller and bigger, that bethesda could make to Skyrim... and no willingness to do them.

I agree with you, I played Dishonored waiting for the next dlc, just amazing for me. It's obvious that Dishonored has some "games" inside, one old game... and also it's obvious Bethesda enjoy adding books in all the games lol. I love the plot that at first seem monotonous, the runes is like the words of powers but with better usage, it's a shame that Dishonored isn't a open world like Skyrim but I can't imagine it, that's because we have tasks, go from point A to C and optional complete point B, then back to point A (anyway I like it because I can chose how or where to do it.

In dishnored you have one character type, with one skill set, interacting with a small and tightly scripted environment. You really can't compare that to the open world and infinitely more customizable playstyle of skyrim. Totally different games, with totally different limitations and focus.

Combat might work better, but almost everything else would be worse. The Unreal Engine isn't really the best choice when it comes to open world RPGs. The only title I can think of that comes even remotely close is Arkham City and even then, leagues of distance between the two in terms of what the engine would need to do.

Only problem I have, is now ive finished dishonored and gone back to skyrim. When I go around with a sword in one hand and spell in the other, I keep think I'm gonna blink or possess someone.

Would Frostbite engine be good for at TES game?

The engine render amazingly in BF3 at default settings. Plust the physics and visuals in that games is spectacular It would be awesome to see TES BF3's level og graphics.

I would buy Dishonored in a heartbeat if it was open ended. How long is the single player, or is there multiplayer to justify it?

It's a very short game.. sadly. But it's really awesome, and you can discover new things if you replay it. And you can play it in many different ways.

Agree completly.. Except I think Skyrim would have to be more urbanized/civilized then it is.. Skyrim, as it is right now.. Seems like it should have been about 500 years ago.. The capital of Skyrim was very very very very small for a Capital.. It should have been about the size of the Imperial City or even bigger.. If Bethesda remade the Imperial City in Skyrim's age.. It probably would be huge right now.. Naturally cities expand.. The island the Imperial City was on probably would have been covered in buildings and there would be more ports..

The town of Weye would have lots of buildings aswell..

This is 100% false.

Beth is just so friggin slow to actually make improments but they do make them in every game.

Also if you liked Dishonored I recommend Dark Messiah. It's from the same devs as dishonored and contains many similiar elements compared to dishonored and to skyrim.

You can even download a demo for it from ubisoft website.

And the characters in Dishonored with it's graphics and such, just feel more alive when I'm talking to them.

This is pretty much because Dishonored is not an openworld game like Skyrim. Dishonored doesn't have many NPCs, about a dozen, they can focus on making them more indepth. While Skyrim have hundreds, even thousands of NPCs and to make them all as fleshed out as in Dishonored would take a very long time. Same with many other things, because there are a lot less levels in Dishonored they can spend a lot more time with them, adding more details and whatnot. Although I think the world crafted for Skyrim is nothing but a masterpiece, but that's besides the point

In many ways, open world games are a lot more generic and consist of far more compromises than smaller detailed games, and the game mechanics has to deal with the general case of everything, while with smaller games you can really put details there and finetune the game mechanics and gameplay into perfection.

I wish that Dishonored was a open world role playing game like Skyrim

This sounds good on paper, but it's not really economically viable. It took several years for Arkane to develop Dishonored. Just imagine how long it would take them to develop an open world that is ~50 times larger with the same amount of detail. They would be bankrupt long before the game was finished.

Cross-Game Finger Syndrome.
It's not unlike trying to walk on regular ground after an hour on a treadmill. For a while it just feels wrong.

Well and I wish Skyrim had the same gameplay for thieves that has Assassin Creed III ... or the same environment interaction
