How many skills for a build?

Post » Wed Oct 31, 2012 3:49 am

How many skills would you guys say is too many skills for one character to undertake. My current character is using all the warrior skills and restoration and conjuration. I'm not putting any perks into archery yet or two handed but I want to use those skills also.

2 Handed is a warrior skill......

Anyway,. the skills you need are the ones your character needs. If your character is using the weapon or technique, then you need to develop that skill. Otherwise, it is academic to increase a skill that you don't need.

I usually tend to perk about 4 skills heavily.
I will perk 1 to 3 more but only a few perks in them.

That said you can use all the skills you want, but I've found that 5 or 6 is best for my play styles.
I like to specialize and be good at fewer skills rather than spread myself out too thin and only be so so at a bunch of skills.

I dont wanna limit myself to x number of skills. I just do what feels right I guess. I usually think of a picture when making a character, fx. Legolas shooting a couple of orcs. And then I'll go make a gay high-elf with dual-wield, archery and speechcraft..

5-6 total. I focus on 3 at a time to not spread myself to thin early.

depends on what difficulty you play - the higher the difficulty, the more perks you will get. at normal i think you get arround 50. anyway, in the beginning you should focus on two, maybe three perk trees. and do not skill all of the perks in one tree, quite some of them are more or less useless (even if they sound nice).

Let's see what I have....

Mayor. (many perk points spent)

one handed
block
archery
light armor
heavy armor

Minor. (few perk points spent, maximum 2)

Sneak
Speech
alchemy

Well thats it. I could have more or less but that works for me. I use all those skills listed so i can say they are not wasted at least. :)

I plan my character's skills for as many as 80 perks can fill :hehe:

Though i have modded the game to give me them 2 per level up to level 40, so i get them quicker. And if needed give a few more.

I usually go 3 major and 3 minor.

That is how I roll as well.
Investing in many skills is only good for very long runs, so anything above 6-7 is good only if you're planning to face Revered Dragons + above.

Most of my characters level up only three skills. I put perk points into only three trees.

You get 1 perk per level regardless of difficulty setting. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.
