build my own, or buy a pre made pc for gaming?

Hey everyone. i am a gamer with a budget, who is just wondering what to do about a gaming PC. i play games alot, but not enough to go all out. i'm just wondering if i should buy a PC straight from the store, and play on that, or if i should buy a new or used PC, and build my own? i've been told it is cheaper to build my own, and i've been told it's the same price, but you get more bang for your buck. i'm trying to keep my budget around $800, but i am willing to go a little higher if need be. I have a PC right now, it is the Dell Dimension C521. it is old, so i doubt i could rebuild it into a good gaming PC.

P.S. i mostly want my PC to play Skyrim (because of the Mods, HD add on) maybe a few other games that my friends keep bugging me to play, and your basic social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. etc. any, and all help/opinions are appreciated. Thank you for your time, it's greatly appreciated.

Building your own is always cheaper and is always better. It takes time and patience (and know how) to build a gaming computer, but it is usually worth it. $800 should be fine for building one, but I wouldn't buy one for less than $1100
