Make sure you get the latest drivers straight from the nVidia or AMD website. Don't rely on the driver that windows gives you.
Also, motherboards have drivers too. They control the PCIE-bus, your audiocard on the motherboard, and a few other things (ethernet or wifi interface, etc). Find out exactly what motherboard you have, and download the latest drivers for your mobo. If you have a laptop, I guess the laptop vendor should be able to supply you similar drivers (Acer, HP, whatever).
