Please help me, I am getting mad.

Post » Thu Nov 01, 2012 9:32 pm

So I did something stupid, I went to download a game, and when I went to it's site I clicked on this huge thing that said download, little did I know it was not the game, but it was some browser thing that also installed Norton Security Scan on my computer. I uninstalled that browser thing, and now I have been trying to uninstall the Norton Security Scan, but every time I try to uninstall it the Norton Scan pops up and just sits there "loading". It says Initializing please wait... with a big circle thing going in circles above it. It never stops doing that, I think it is doing this on purpose because it a virus or some bullcrap like that.

Anyway this is really pissing me off! How do I get rid of it?

If you think it's a virus, do a scan. Preferably not with Norton.

Use a program like Revo Uninstaller to remove Norton. It'll scan for files associated with the program and delete them, even if the program's regular uninstall won't work.

Thanks for the advice.

Pictures?

It sounds more like rogue antivirus/ransomeware than it does legitimate.

Sorry I don't have any pictures, I got rid of the program with the Revo Uninstaller. http://scwww.awdit.com/sicon/165/6e2415d941115d58830fe547062efafa.png Like that. That is really the only picture I can give since I didn't take any.

That was my first thought too, but on the other hand, Norton Antivirus is known to make less-than-subtle attempts to prevent its removal from any given system.

FTFY

Which is why you always use the https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20100322171108EN&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&lg=en&ct=us when available. Virtually all antivirus software has them. Antivirus software embeds itself deep in the OS to make it harder for malware to mess with it. The downside is it also makes it a PITA to deal with yourself as well. Hence antivirus companies release removal tools. The removal tools usually have your standard anti-bot CAPTCHA features and cannot be automated.
