Do I have to start a new game after patches

Post » Sat Nov 03, 2012 5:52 pm

Please note that having a designated patch installed will not guarantee that the issue it was supposed to fix will be fixed upon entering game. In some cases after a patch has been installed players have noted that their previous save files have become unplayable, glitchy and other issues. As such it may be necessary to start a new game file to have all issues resolved.

Read this on UESP and it had me worried. So if I start a new game now and 1 year down the track there's version 2.4 and 2-3 more DLC or something does that mean that save is now pointless?

I'm reluctant to start a 300+ hour game if that's what's going to happen.

It can be up in the air.

Largely, previous saves will be fine, though they may not properly update to the new patch. Note that on the UESP Wiki, it says SOME players, not all.

A patch can break a game, but if your copy of gamesas titles have been relatively fine and stable, then you should be OK.

I have read the weirdest things on uesp.

I started on 11/11/11 with what came out of the Skyrim box and I'm still using this as my only character after almost a year later on version 1.8.

Nothing to worry about, cititzen. Keep calm, carry on and long live the empire.

Patching/updating can cause some issues...overall though, with the exception of conflicts, there shouldn't be too many problems for most players.

In general, you may not see some of the changes introduced until you do start a new game though, which is something you should be aware of.

For those who use SKSE, and SKSE based mods, until that is patched up to the newer version of Skyrim, then it won't launch IF your game has updated...it's a hassle, but there it is.
