Destroying Dark Brotherhood and Dawnstar...

Post » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:49 pm

Hi there!

I was glad to find out that one can attack the Dark Brotherhood. I did not know about their hideout near Falkreath (where I just eradicated every living being), but even tough I got my reward from the Penitus Oculatus Commander and the quest is marked as complete, something's not right:
  • What about that creepy hideout near Dawnstar? Since even local townspeople know about it, can I inform the Penitus Oculatus of this hideout?
  • Since the door uses another question, how can I get in?
  • What on earth is that dark brotherhood double agent in Dragonbridge about? He wears Oculatus armor, does not talk, is essential and carrys a DB book with him.
I guess he's supposed to kill the commander but something does not trigger?

Many thanks in advance and long live the empire.

You can't do anything about it.

SPOILER

(Would someone mind telling me where the spoiler tag option is on this site, thanks.)

The Dawnstar santuary has been abandoned for over a hundred years, so there's no activity there until after you complete the DB quest. However, as Cicero (Night Mother's Keeper) knows how to access it, I'd imagine that Bethesda will use that as an option to explain why the DB returns in the next game.

there is no way into the dawnstar santuary. Its not triggered to become available until you have completed a certain point in the Dark Brotherhood questline that didn't involve you destroying them. There is nothing in there, no word wall, no treasure and no items to collect. Sure Dawnstar citizens know about it and speak of it. But they know not to go near it and that its abandoned. I see no reason to need to go in there myself. Like I said, its in shambles.

It only becomes livable after you fix it up, which also requires you to be a member of the thieves guild. At least I always was when I paid Delvin to fix it.

You don't have to be a member of the Thieves Guild.

RHOS is correct; you only need to fight your way into the TG/Ragged Flagon one time, and after that, you have free access to the Ragged Flagon. You can't get into the Cistern unless you're a TG member, tho'.

Ah. I was always the thieves guild master by the time I got around to the DB questline.

That would be easy enough to do anyway... just say Babette got away.

I feel Cicero has a stronger claim.

Babette may join him, but as Cicero has the Night Mother, the Old Ways and access to a secure sanctuary, i think he would be the saviour of the Brotherhood.

I think it would be worded like:

"Cicero and the Listener (ambiguous) redounded the Brotherhood in Dawnstar"

Thanks for clearing this up. I'd feel better if I could also flood the cave on the northern shore but it looks I'm done.
